Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB


The DC General Manager is responsible for maintaining the receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. The Manager will manage all efforts at the location, which includes strategy, execution, defining and/or driving logistics, lean and six sigma initiatives, optimization of inventory, facilities, safety and transportation. The Manager is responsible for the development and execution of the associates, tools, processes and capabilities. This key member of the Operations team will support the development and implementation of business-focused Operations initiatives that drive continuous improvement throughout the business as well as identify supply chain solutions to create a sustainable competitive advantage in cost, cash, safety, quality and service.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Safeguards warehouse and distribution operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Reviews and adjusts personnel to maintain expense percent to sales per company objectives.
  • Assure the physical organization, safety and housekeeping of the warehouse and surrounding areas
  • Implement warehouse operations policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with Operations leadership team as necessary.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Ability to staff the warehouse appropriately based on influxes in sales, to assure on-time delivery.
  • Monitor quality, cost, and efficiency of the movement and storage of goods.
  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement
  • Prepare or direct preparation of reports on operations, maintenance, and safety.
  • Actively works to manage space constraints and minimize the utilization of inventory areas
  • Work with HR representative o to plan, develop, and implement warehouse safety and security programs and activities
  • Lead in the development of initiatives to improve warehouse/distribution efficiencies.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Achieves financial objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing expense variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Develop team, mentor, and coach all direct staff. Help develop organizational capacity and build future leaders for the organization.
  • Develop and document standard and emergency operating procedures for receiving, handling, storing, shipping, or salvaging products or materials.
  • Review financial statements, sales, safety, and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.


LEADERSHIP


  • Has led teams of at least 200 hourly Associates with multiple layers of management in between
  • Hands-on/Participatory, walks the floor with the purpose of connecting with their workforce
  • Demonstrated development of high-performing staff members and managing out low-performing associates
  • Leads with vision, looks around corners
  • Ability to motivate others and maintain high morale with staff

Other Duties And Responsibilities


  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skill


Education And Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or Business Management is preferred or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years managerial experience in positions with increasing responsibilities required
  • Experience in distribution is preferred

  • High level of business acumen, including financial, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills,

  • Proven ability to develop, lead and culturally drive an environment of high productivity and cost effectiveness
  • Experience driving lean manufacturing, continuous process improvement, and/or six sigma initiatives

  • Strategic thinker and hands-on problem solver that possesses integrity and leadership
  • Demonstrated change agent in implementing Lean Manufacturing principles, TQM, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma
  • Ability to consolidate operational details and effectively communicate to high-level stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with people at all levels


COMPUTER OPERATIONS


  • Evaluate technology (software/hardware and code related) by source providers, conduct RFPs to make choices for the organization that have an appropriate balance between cost/benefit today and future implications and limitations
  • Create a method of change management including ownership of documentation, communication plans, process training, etc
  • An analytical mindset and ability to write your own tools as needed for driving future research directions
  • Possess a high-level understanding in the areas of WMS, TMS, content management systems, API, database and system design.
  • Manage and track team velocity, financials, and other KPIs in relation to the plan and published progress reports
