The Director of Rehabilitation Admissions plans and implements rehabilitation referral development and marketing activities such as direct patient/referral contacts, written materials, marketing calls, exhibits, advertisements and dissemination of program outcome data to promote rehabilitation service line growth and ensure market visibility. To help achieve our mission, this role directs the conversion of all acute rehabilitation referrals, coordination of all rehabilitation admissions, and referral development activities for the acute rehabilitation programs in the Inova Health System Musculoskeletal Service (MSK) Line. This will be achieved by creating a user friendly, internally cohesive, and seamless system that supports the mission of acute rehabilitation services, promoting growth and meeting established budgetary targets. Your ability to demonstrate advanced communication skills necessary for effective problem solving, conflict resolution and facilitating group interactions to achieve desired outcomes is of vital importance. Managing, supervising, and facilitating the development of the Rehabilitation Admissions team to maximize performance and ensure an effective referral/admissions process is expected.
Job Responsibilities
- Identifies customer information needs regarding admission criteria, program capabilities and outcomes, while facilitating the creation or revision of necessary printed materials.
- Oversees admissions team to perform baseline and ongoing assessments of potential patients, gathers all pertinent information regarding referrals and formulates appropriate decisions for routine and complex cases based on physician and rehab team feedback.
- Directs the coordination of the admission process and the admissions team to contact payer representatives to discuss admission criteria, benefits explanation and understanding of payer requirements as changes occur in process, personnel, or affiliations. Monitors trends and works with Acute Rehabilitation and Inova MSK leadership, Case Management leadership and team members, Patient Access leadership and team members, and Patient Financial Services leadership and team members. Explores opportunities for improvement to avoid loss of access to specific payers or business declines due to rate or contract problems
- Promotes increased program visibility in the community through conference exhibits, inclusion in publications, advertising, internal organization conferences and external community awareness events.
- Educates physicians, patients, families and healthcare professionals about Rehabilitation Admissions criteria, regulatory requirements and impact of diagnosis, prognosis and clinical indicators on Rehabilitation Admissions decisions based on observation and feedback.
- Identifies and targets referral development opportunities and sets priorities for the Rehab Admissions Liaisons, Authorization and Certification personnel, and Rehabilitation Admissions Referral Specialists based on annual marketing/referral development plan.
- Participates in the development of the strategic marketing plan related to inpatient acute rehabilitation services for growth opportunities, competitive analysis, and factors impacting admission trends.
- Provides verbal and written reports to Acute Rehabilitation leadership team of referral information, market intelligence, trends, and opportunities, as evidenced by gathered data analytics.
Qualifications
- Must have experience in inpatient rehabilitation, acute rehabilitation, and the post-acute care continuum.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, or Allied Healthcare, or a related field.
- Knowledge of clinical and reimbursement issues.
- 3 years of experience as a Registered nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist in rehabilitation setting.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience and experience in healthcare sales/marketing.
