This is a Part-time position Base salary: $16,380

Shift hours will be Scheduled between the hours of 8 am and 7:30 pm.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Experience in Substance Abuse preferred but not required*

*Bi-lingual applicants are preferred but not required*


Plans, develops, and conducts patient substance disorder treatment, court education and anger management services by means of educational classes and individual and group Counseling, utilizing Motivational Interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and or the dual recovery Twelve Step program.

Conducts patient assessments pertaining to (1) patient level of readiness for and ability to benefit from substance disorder services (2) patient input regarding their individual needs, preferences and wants (3) patient overall progress and progress toward accomplishment of treatment objectives (4) patient ability to remain abstinent after discharge (5) special evaluations as required for clinical or legal purposes.

Documents patient treatment progress on a monthly basis meeting with patients individually as needed to accomplish Pre-Recovery Plan documentation.

Coordinates with service team members, patient family if necessary, and the patient in mutually (1) identifying their strengths and assets to help build a recovery foundation (2) establishing treatment objectives for resolution of substance disorder issues.

Fulfills duties of being part of the service team by coordinating with staff to help resolve patient problems and needs particularly as they relate to substances, attending special service team meetings when possible, preparing statistical reports as requested, and participating in committee groups as assigned.

Provides pre-discharge counseling to patients, written progress summaries, and discharge recommendations to the service team, documenting the level of substance disorder support that will be needed after discharge.

Participates in individual professional development, Florida State Hospital and Department of Children and Families required training, protocols with supervisor; including observation, reviews, training, and performs other related work as required; such as working with intern.


Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of theories and practices in counseling or social work.
Knowledge of professional ethics relating to counseling or social work.
Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
Ability to provide counseling or social work services to others.
Ability to coordinate a team approach to the rehabilitation process.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to actively listen to others.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.


Licensure/registration/certifications



A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year (preferable) of professional experience in developmental disabilities, special education, mental health, counseling, guidance, social work, health or rehabilitative programs. Rehabilitative sciences include: Music Therapy; Therapeutic Recreation; Horticulture Therapy
Art Therapy; Dance therapy; Occupational Therapy. Behavioral Sciences includes: Counseling and Psychology.

Other degrees which can be considered include: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Special Education, Social Work, Education (including but not limited to music, vocational, arts, etc.), Human Services , Sociology, Allied Health, Leisure Studies with course work in Therapeutic Recreation, and Other Human Services or Therapeutic Related Degrees, Provided they meet the following criteria in addition to the degree:


  • Either a minor in psychology or
  • 18 hours of course work specifically related to providing mental health services (to be determined by review of transcript): including but not limited to assessments for individual needs, program planning/development based on needs, counseling, behavioral/abnormal psychology or psychological theories, behavior modification, etc. or

At least one year previous work experience in a mental health related program with experience in assessing individuals for needed services, planning/developing interventions to address individual needs and implementing those services.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year
