Primary Purpose:


The Performance Excellence team will ensure Norfolk Southern comprehensively prioritizes and solves its most pressing operating challenges, develops lasting processes which support smart growth, and consistently delivers organizational objectives for the least practical cost. The Director Performance Excellence – Technology Optimization will play a key role in establishing the foundation for operational technologies of the future.



Principal Duties
  • Influence end business user group leaders to adopt technologies by clearly creating a compelling vision for change
  • Ideation leadership creating list of opportunities that tie into unrealized technologies (e.g. camera based inspections, enhanced machine “optics”, etc.)
  • Project ownership / management for a subset of technology projects (as assigned by Sr. Director)
  • Manage Agile process by setting project Sprint parameters, lead effective Kaizen events
  • Maintain Gantt based project timelines with key stakeholder engagement at the Leader of Leader level
Experience
Required Years of Experience: 3-5 in a transportation related field
Preferred Years of Experience: 5-10 in a transportation related field

Education
Education Level:
Bachelors in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Business

  • Provide strategic direction for technical assessment, definition, prioritization, architecture, design and deployment of new products and services.
  • Direct development and delivery of software solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Identify and investigate advanced technologies offering company significant technical and financial benefits. Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Coordinate with senior leadership across organization and stimulate overall resource allocation as best fits business objectives.
  • Ensure proposed new features and capabilities integrated into existing networks using company current and future network technologies.
  • Analyze various technical solutions and make recommendations based on technical and financial merits.
  • Lead and direct interdepartmental teams towards integration of these new services into organizational network.
  • Identify and execute business process improvements related to technical applications, systems and client implementations.
  • Negotiate and manage critical vendor relationships to maximize value and timeliness of external innovations.
  • Forecast, plan, research and select new technologies enabling company to attain business goals.
  • Represent company’s software development expertise in winning of new business along with sales department.
  • Contribute in key customer meetings to promote existing relationships.
  • Identify priorities and communicate technology impacts throughout decision making process.
