Purpose
This position requires a dynamic, thoughtful, and intellectually and community engaged leader to build, amplify, and advance a culture of access, belonging, community engagement a,nd civil discourse at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. This creative self-starter engages with stakeholders to scale activities and implement best practices within the LBJ School. This role interfaces, communicates, and collaborates with prospective applicants, students, faculty and staff, university partners, alumni, affinity groups and community organizations.
Responsibilities
Recruitment to Increase Access to an LBJ School degree
  • Lead the development and execution of a general recruiting and outreach plan to increase applications and enrollments from prospective audiences.
  • Oversee a multi-pronged pipeline approach to recruiting first-generation college students, low-income students, and students from underserved populations. Oversee national reach pipelines with partner organizations and early pipeline informational programs for undergrad institutions in the state and nationally.
  • Lead the development and execution of the prospective audience communications and messaging plan in conjunction with Communications.
  • Work closely with OSAA on student recruitment. Lead the development and execution of LBJ-specific recruiting events (targeted information sessions, webinars, 1:1 sessions and other targeted events).
Student Engagement and Belonging
  • Work with OSAA staff, the communications team, school leadership and student organization leaders to develop impactful student programming, activities and initiatives focused on belonging and student success.
  • Provide general guidance to at-risk students with the goal of increasing access and retention. Partnering with OSAA on programming to support these students.
  • Work with OSAA staff to partner on student success initiatives that increase access and retention.
  • Design and curate appropriate programming.
  • Oversee yield and onboarding strategies for first-generation college students, low-income students, and students from underserved populations, among others; develop and execute programming for summer yield efforts, new student orientation, and continuing student re-orientation.
  • Develop and execute engagement and belonging programming for the enrolled student body.
Civil Discourse, Leadership and Communication
  • Oversee programming for students to build communication, leadership, listening, and collaboration skills.
  • Coordinate and attend Access and Belonging Committee meetings.
  • In conjunction with the Dean, lead student town halls to address concerns and issues brought up by the student body with the goal of ensuring everyone has a voice and the school moves forward together, stronger.
  • Work with OSAA to continue to build out the alumni-student of color mentorship program. Work closely with OSAA’s Professional Development program team to provide content to support the Professional Development Certificate program curriculum when it comes to civil discourse, difficult conversations and other leadership communication skills.
  • Oversee system that bi-annually evaluates access and belonging progress across composition and culture. Distribute progress memo to the LBJ community and post on the website.
  • Address individual student concerns and serve as an advocate for students who are feeling marginalized.

Required Qualifications
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor.
  • High level of independent motivation and initiative, while working well within a team.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • 3-5+ years of professional experience with these issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the University of Texas system.
  • More than the required experience and qualifications.
Salary Range
$85,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
  • Flexible Work Arrangements (e.g., flexible schedules, telecommuting, etc.) will be discussed and considered at time of offer.

Employment Eligibility:
