Thompson Houston is now recruiting a Director of Spa + Wellness to join the hotel’s opening team. Set in a soaring 36-story skyscraper, Thompson Houston + The Residences at the Allen is the city’s newest and most fashionable landmark. The hotel’s coveted location in verdant Buffalo Bayou Park centers the property as a veritable oasis within the city. Opening Fall 2023, this luxury oasis boasts 172 luxury guestrooms, including 34 breathtaking suites, and a private collection of 100 residences. Unmatched amenities include a full-service spa, a well-equipped fitness center, several destination restaurants, a private heliport, an expansive one-acre pool deck, and over 17,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event spaces.

The Director of Spa + Wellness oversees the entire spa team and Wellness Floor within Thompson Houston to include the Spa, Salon, and Fitness Center. This person is integral in our wellness programing within the building, giving cutting edge advice, and making strategic operational decisions with regards to treatments and concepts. The Director of Spa + Wellness should be developing creative experiences for our guests, residents, and local communities all while demonstrating effective retail management, supervising the spa team, and ensuring we meet our financial goals.
This position’s anticipated start date is July/August 2023
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the over-all operation and performance of the spa and fitness for the Wellness floor including spa. salon, retail, fitness center, and wellness programming.
- Prepare financial and statistical reports for the senior leadership that incorporates recommendations regarding cutting edge technology and operation enhancements of the Spa/Fitness Center, as well as, comp set analysis, market share, and occupancy usage within the spa.
- To be responsible for the quality of service and maintenance of the product at the Spa Fitness Center.
- Work closely with the Marketing Team in the preparation of Spa/Fitness marketing plans for the year.
- Meeting all financial objectives for the spa, meeting monthly spa revenue projections as it relates to retail and service and ensuring that expenses are maintained within budget provided. Primary functions include, but are not limited to providing outstanding guest service and satisfaction, revenue generation and enhancement, staff management and training.
- Coordinate all promotional plans and projects for the facility. To provide leadership, direction and support to the employees of the Spa/Fitness and to develop a highly motivated team who can deliver high standards of service in all areas.
- To effectively integrate the Spa/Fitness within the Hotel marketing strategy and to ensure that the Spa /Fitness is marketed correctly both internally and externally. This includes responsibility for ensuring that all hotel team are kept informed of changes or additions to information in the Spa/Fitness.
- Strive to deliver the best quality and be encouraged by excellence.
- Build an open and trustful environment where everyone's opinion is share and value. Communicate clearly and openly the correct information at the right moment and why we are doing things the way that we are.
- Responsible for the consistent achievement and regular review of the business plan and budget. This should also include the control of team labor costs in relation to productivity and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Refined verbal and written communication skills.
- A true desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast paced environment.
- 5+ years upper management experience in Spa or a related field.
- Strong business relationship skills.
