Job Description
Location: Remote organization, but a hybrid role with strong preference for someone in the Washington, DC metro area. We work on an Eastern time zone schedule.
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
About Majority Action:
Majority Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering shareholders of all sizes to hold corporations and their leaders accountable to high standards of long-term value creation, corporate governance, and social responsibility.
Our campaigns expose harmful corporate governance and behavior, catalyze investor and public action, and confront the minority who make corporate abuses possible to defend the long-term financial, environmental, and social interests of the majority. Learn more at www.majorityaction.us.
Majority Action staff collectively believe that transformational change is possible and that achieving such change requires tenacity, creativity, rigor, and collaboration. We strive to balance strategic pragmatism to advance campaigns with the courage to challenge ideas and systems that undermine sustainability, equity, and inclusion.
Our team values:
  • Nimbleness and strategic flexibility in the face of challenge
  • Integrity in our relationships
  • Deep, equitable, and mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Asking hard questions and adapting based on what we learn
  • Working with awareness of and respect for our needs
  • Excellence in our work
About the Role:
Majority Action campaigns to transform corporate behavior on climate change, racial justice and inequality. We do this by weaving together investigative research, institutional investor engagement, strategic communications, and grassroots partnerships into integrated strategic campaigns to hold corporate boards accountable.
While Majority Action is not a traditional membership-based organization, the team works in close partnership with grassroots organizations. We work together to develop strategies and execute tactics that support activists to make their power felt in corporate boardrooms.
The tentatively-titled “Our Money, Our Future” Campaign aims to neutralize and leverage the anti-ESG backlash by creating a common narrative around ESG and cultivating strategic partnerships within the progressive movement to advocate for responsible corporate governance.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial Advocacy and Partnership Director to lead engagements through the end of 2024, and potentially beyond, to grow the impact and influence of a landmark new ESG narrative strategy. The campaign is anchored by Majority Action, and designed in partnership with Americans for Financial Reform (AFR), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and A-B Partners.
Therefore this position is a temporary, but full-time role that would last until the end of 2024.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will anchor the emerging “Our Money, Our Future” campaign and contribute towards building Majority Action’s long-term strategic capacity on advocacy and partnerships. Toward this end, you will:
  • Identify and design tactical opportunities for coalition and partner activities to advance our narrative and advocacy strategies
  • Cultivate new partnerships with policymakers, progressive think tanks, and national organizations to help us execute our narrative and advocacy strategy
  • Together with our partners, design an initial coalition-building strategy and launch
  • Leverage and drive synergies with Majority Action’s existing intellectual leadership, investor engagement strategies, and accountability campaigns to advance shared objectives
  • Identify staffing and/or other resource needs, and design roles to staff up the project as needed
  • Coordinate emerging narrative strategy with A-B, AFR, SEIU, and other potential partners to ensure that narrative products and tactics align with strategic objectives and the needs of advocacy and coalition activities
  • Together with our coalition partners, create an advocacy strategy that advances our narrative and policy objectives on the Hill and in the media and anchor a coalition of national organizations to advance it
Requirements
  • Commitment to the belief that democracy, racial justice, and climate equity are inextricable
  • Possess an understanding core tenets of movement building and/or political campaigns, including campaign strategy, constituency building, branding, core narrative development, and a strong knowledge of key players in the political and progressive advocacy landscape
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience designing and launching national-level issue campaigns or similar strategic initiatives in political campaigns, lobbying, or labor organizing
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience reading and navigating the current political landscape
  • Extensive advocacy work and coalition building experience as a campaigner with lobbying and advocacy expertise
  • Demonstrated track record of success cultivating and operationalizing relationships with potential partners and stakeholders, organizational leaders
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience with corporate accountability and/or narrative strategy campaign design and execution
  • Depth of experience with government relations on Capitol Hill
Majority Action is acutely aware that irresponsible corporate behavior disproportionately harms communities of color, working-class communities, women, and LGBTQ people. Centering diverse perspectives is critical to breaking down systemic structures of oppression and holding those in power accountable. People of color, women, LGBTQ individuals and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Benefits
Salary $130,000. This is a full-time, exempt position based in the US. This position is currently funded through 2024 and has the potential to be funded beyond 2024. While we are a fully remote organization, COVID vaccinations are required for in-person meetings and work.
Majority Action is proud to offer the following:
  • Life insurance
  • 12 weeks, paid parental leave
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Home office stipend
  • Long-/short-term disability insurance
  • 401k Safe Harbor Plan - Employer contributes 3% for all employees
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
This is a full-time, exempt position. Majority Action is an equal-opportunity employer.
