Job Description

Job Brief

Flexible Location: Phoenix, AZ | Salt Lake City, UT

Position Purpose: This position is responsible for the development, oversight, administration, leadership, and management of an overall region to support utility scale electrical construction projects. The Director of Operations provides leadership for commercial, technical, and administrative functions involving short and long-range planning and will be responsible for establishing and managing their department’s goals and objectives. The Director of Operations has ownership for the financial P&L within their region and will interface with peers regarding company-wide operational strategies and projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

§ Develop annual regional budget to include direct, indirect, and overhead costs

§ Develop annual revenue and profit goals and drive results. Responsible for overall P&L for region

§ Provide leadership and oversight to regional staff, establish annual goals, provide feedback, and focus on continuous improvement

§ Develop strong customer relationships and drive new business opportunities to scale revenue growth in the region

§ Provide oversight and direction to Operations Managers, Project Managers and Field Crews to assure crews are coordinated to work safely and efficiently to meet contracting requirements, budgets, forecasts, change orders, and schedules

§ Coordinates the startup and integration of new operations to include staffing, customer development, client relations, sales/marketing, business development, business planning and implementation of operating systems

§ Interfaces with the MJE Business Development function to formulate and execute customer relations strategies, alliances, and initiatives

§ Develop strong customer relationships and drive new business opportunities to the region

§ Ensure safety is operationalized & integrated in all work, constantly driving to make sure that best practices are identified and shared across all power operations

§ Develop, oversee, and support Operational team(s) with estimating, project scope development, contract reviews, and construction execution

§ Ensure that Senior Management is kept current on the progress of construction projects, future business opportunities and industry trends

§ Prepare project status reports and provide regular updates directly to senior management

§ Develop performance and labor strategies to optimize performance and compete in new and existing markets

§ Provide oversight to regional Operations team to promote proactive and preventive safety activities across the region by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors, and correcting unsafe conditions

§ Provide oversight to regional Operations team to integrate safety into project plans by establishing safety goals, reinforcing safety and DOT policies and procedures

§ Promote the use of MJE common systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, record keeping, documentation, and budgeting by Project Managers

§ Demonstrate visible safety leadership by supporting the implementation and management of the MJE Safety Management System, participating on scheduled President’s Calls, and participating on the MJE Safety Committee

§ Ensures the consistency of policies, processes, and procedures throughout the region

§ Travel will be a requirement for this position

Knowledge | Skills | Abilities:


§ Strong persuasive skills in dealing with top management and with managers and supervisors

§ Ability to organize safety and occupational health material into lesson plans and present the material to managers and safety committee effectively

§ Knowledge, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements

§ Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, contract development, analytical and negotiation skills

§ Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

§ Ability to anticipate and meet customer needs

§ Ability to work with IBEW union and craft personnel

§ Ability to hire, mentor, and develop management staff to support regional growth

§ Demonstrated supervisory skills

§ Ability to provide oversight to numerous projects throughout a large geographic area

Qualifications:

§ Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering. Equivalent work experience will be considered

§ 7+ years of proven Managerial/Supervisory experience in Electrical Construction

§ Extensive project management skills with a track record of achievement of complex projects

§ Extensive experience in creating and managing budgets, providing accurate monthly project forecasts, and profit projections

§ Proven track record in the development of successful proposals, alliances, and teaming arrangements

Work Environment:

§ Must be able to remain standing approximately 50% of the time

§ Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, climbing

§ The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

§ Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions

§ Occasionally lifting 40 pounds
