Job Description

SMV Recruiting, LLC is actively looking for an experienced Director of Operations for a large and very well-respected manufacturer near Iowa City, IA. Our client is experiencing significant growth and is looking to expand its manufacturing capabilities over the next two years, so they need a strong leader who has experience with executing an aggressive growth strategy, building strong teams with world-class cultures and work environments, while overseeing daily operations. Our client is ideally looking for someone with an industrial engineering background, 20+ years of experience, 10+ years of leadership experience and prior experience working with fabrication, welding, paint and assembly within a true assembly environment. A deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is strongly desired. This position provides an awesome opportunity to join an industry leader, have a huge impact on the growth strategy, and play a pivotal role in building a great culture and team with extensive autonomy.


Responsibilities:

  • Act at the senior site leader and manage any significant issues that arise at a 350 sq/ft manufacturing site and a warehouse
  • Lead 500+ employees, provide direction, motivation and enhance company culture within a 24/7 environment
  • Manage Profit and Loss with full accountability for a $300M+ operating budget
  • Strong focus on applying and leading lean manufacturing techniques and Toyota Production System principles throughout the site
  • Develop strategic objectives and deliver results consistent with corporate strategy
  • Interface with and/or influence external customers in situations that require high degrees of tact and discretion to ensure relationships are enhanced
  • Work closely with corporate leadership to increase productivity, improve processes and enhance the layout of the site to meet demand
  • Responsible for staffing, throughput, production schedules, production issues, quality issues and overall performance of the site

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with fabrication, welding, paint and assembly within a true assembly environment
  • Must be able to work independently, be strategic, resourceful and work with a sense of urgency
  • 5+ years of Lean Manufacturing leadership.
  • Experience building leadership teams and company cultures
  • 10+ years of leadership experience overseeing 200+ staff
  • 15+ years of manufacturing experience working with capital equipment and/or in the automotive industry
  • Prior experience managing the P&L budget of at least $250M
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (Engineering degree and/orMBA strongly preferred)
