Description
Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI) is the premier certification body responsible for global delivery and quality oversight of green building and green business sustainability standards. Its integrated team of green building specialists administers credentials and certifications for LEED, WELL, PEER, SITES, EDGE, TRUE Zero Waste, and ICP. The Operations Director leads a team of 5-15 Operations team members and oversees GBCI’s Certification business operations including managing relationships with a network of service vendors, resource planning and allocation, training, and mentorship of staff.
The Operations Director will develop and implement a vision for performance-driven decision making at GBCI, establishing a framework for business analytics that leverages data to drive quality, consistency, efficiency, and scale into daily program operations. As part of the GBCI management team, this individual will set and ensure performance against targets for operational efficiency at GBCI. They will embrace change and will excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
This position is performed remotely within the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain an expert-level understanding of the daily operations of GBCI certification programs
- Oversee management of GBCI's vendors, including communications, ongoing work assignments, invoicing, and performance monitoring
- Oversee distribution of work within the certification operations and review teams and across GBCI's network of vendors. Allocate work effectively to ensure that the team is fully leveraged and all team responsibilities are met
- Ensure certification team success through positive leadership, direction setting and oversight
- Oversee and lead the installment of standard operating procedures for all established department processes, and ensure that these procedures are aligned with industry best practices. Maintain a centralized management system for document control that is aligned with industry best practices such as ISO 17065 and others
- Oversee employee onboarding, including interviews, and staff training plans
- Foster a collaborative team-environment and a shared sense of responsibility for team deliverables
- Establish systems and tools for monitoring individual, team, and program performance
- Execute vision from senior management to drive organizational success and meet business and budgetary goals
- Contribute to budgeting and strategic planning processes, including time & expense planning for production operations
- Develop operations team by targeting and advocating professional development opportunities
- Monitor individual, group, and contractor performance metrics; plan and implement corrective actions to ensure that department goals are met
- Work collaboratively with GBCI management team to set department goals and performance metrics
- Regularly collect and analyze feedback from team members and vendors; work with GBCI management to identify, prioritize, and implement improvements to processes and policies
- Lead research efforts, leveraging GBCI's robust data infrastructure to produce data-driven insights that inform decision making at GBCI
- Lead cross-department initiatives (especially with Technology department) providing leadership and direction in support of effective collaboration of cross functional teams
EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION:
- Manage and supervise a team of 10-15 people

- 5-10%

Requirements
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES:
- LEED AP with specialty preferred
- LEED Green Associate required (or within one year of hire)
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Planning, Building Operations, Environmental Science
- Bachelor’s degree required (Graduate degree preferred), preferably in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum five years supervising production staff or teams in highly challenging environment with demonstrated results
- Must be technically conversant in GBCI core offerings including LEED and other standards
- Experience with certification programs/conformity assessment, including basic knowledge of ISO 17065 and related standards
- Minimum ten years professional experience in business operations
- Strong foundational knowledge in the areas of Project Management, Resource Planning & Budgeting, Business Analytics, and Information Technology
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for and commitment to USGBC and GBCI mission
- Advanced Excel skills required, experience with database languages (mySQL, etc), data visualization platforms (TIBCO Spotfire, PowerBI, etc) preferred
- Detail-oriented and able to prioritize
- Excellent judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of budgets and budget process
- Ability to work well both independently and on teams
