Job Description
Overview
We’re excited to be looking for a Director of Merchandising to join our team in Brooklyn, NY. Reporting to our VP of Merchandising & Planning, you’ll oversee part of our Merchandising team and shape Brooklinen’s product assortment across most categories and channels to meet customer needs and drive the business forward. You’ll also lead and mentor one direct report.
You’re the perfect person for this role if you have soft home goods experience, are obsessed with the details, and are willing to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to get the job done. This role is based in Brooklyn, NY, and we have a 2 days in/3 days remote schedule.
What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand, influence, and drive business goals and identify category and product opportunities
  • Manage retail price setting, target cost, and margin goals; partner with our Director of Product Development and Director of Design on all costing objectives
  • Create relevant product assortments that drive the business
  • Identify product opportunities through regular hindsighting that incorporates consumer research, channel feedback, and sales performance analysis
  • Maintain updated product knowledge of key competitor product, distribution, and pricing strategies
  • Drive process improvements to optimize team efficiency and streamline workload
  • Partner with our Planning team to provide guidelines and direction for global and omni-channel buys
  • Partner with our Director of Design and Director of Product Development throughout the entire milestone process to bring to market an assortment that addresses brand and customer needs
  • Analyze sales weekly to gain insight into the business and drive strategy
We're Looking For Someone Who Brings
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable with change
  • 4+ years of people leadership experience; proven track record of developing and leading a team
  • Experience working with color and print/pattern
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial or startup environment
  • Soft home goods experience
  • Strong analytical background with a strong understanding of retail math
  • 10+ years of buying, merchandising, or merchandising planning experience
Compensation & Benefits
At Brooklinen, our goal is to offer a competitive total compensation package which we determine based on specific market data taking into account our company size, stage, industry, and location. The base salary range for this role is between $150K - $165K.
Beyond base salary, we contribute significantly to offset the cost of health benefits, offer a 401K with a 4% Safe Harbour match, grant a $1K annual wellness bonus, have commuter benefits, and also provide a yearly product allowance.
We have 14 weeks of 100% paid parental leave for all new parents, year-long Summer Fridays, a workday that starts at 10 am, four weeks of vacation, and a one-month paid sabbatical at your 5th anniversary.
