Job Description
Job Summary


Under the direction of the VP Talent Acquisition, the newly created role of Director of Human Resources will be an integral part of a growing team at our new start-up modular factory. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, labor relations, and union law. The Director of HR will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management within the factory, with a particular focus on ensuring compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive work environment.

SoLa Impact is a real estate private equity firm with a double bottom line strategy focused on preserving, rehabbing, and building high-quality affordable housing in Black and brown communities. SoLa is Southern California's largest for-profit affordable housing developer and is currently in construction on over 2,000 affordable housing units across Southern California. SoLa currently owns and manages over $1.2 billion of multifamily assets, almost all of which are in low-income, Black and brown communities.


SoLa's new venture affiliate is reinventing multifamily housing creation by building the first and only standardized modular housing factory. The new venture platform is a comprehensive manufacturing system designed, engineered, and built to consistently produce a high-quality, low-cost, net-zero ready, and most importantly, standardized, modular housing product. The new venture is a Black-owned and operated business based in Southern California that will deliver between 1,000 – 1,500 modular housing units per year by 2025. Essential Duties


Strategic HR Planning


Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s


objectives and manufacturing goals. Collaborate with senior management to identify HR needs, anticipate future requirements, and propose effective solutions.


Provide guidance on workforce planning, talent acquisition, and succession planning specific to the manufacturing environment.


Employee Relations


Ensure compliance with labor laws, and associated regulations. Address employee concerns, grievances, and disputes in a timely and fair manner.


Performance Management and Training


Develop and implement performance management systems tailored to the


manufacturing environment. Provide guidance and support to managers on performance evaluation, goal setting, and career development. Identify training and development needs, both technical and soft skills, and coordinate appropriate programs.


Compensation And Benefits


Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and


benefits programs for manufacturing employees. Conduct regular market analysis to ensure salary competitiveness and benefits compliance. Develop and implement recognition and reward programs to foster employee motivation and engagement.


Recruitment and Talent Acquisition


Create, design and execute recruitment strategies to attract skilled manufacturing professionals. Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements, develop job descriptions, and create effective selection processes. Oversee the recruitment process, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and collaborating to make key hiring decisions, and ensure a stellar candidate UX.


HR Policies and Compliance


Develop and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.


Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and safety


standards. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR databases.


Employee Engagement and Culture


Foster a positive work environment that promotes employee satisfaction,


teamwork, and productivity. Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, such as employee surveys, feedback mechanisms, and recognition programs. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and learning


within the manufacturing workforce.


Requirements


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CA labor law and Fair Housing regulations required.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Experience in managing complex employee relations issues, including grievances and disputes.
  • Passionate about SoLa’s mission
  • Ability to collaborate with others and utilize knowledge and resources to identify quality solutions
  • Highly organized, resourceful, proactive, creative, detail-oriented, and critical thinking skills required; willingness and ability to learn quickly and on-the-fly
  • Management, compensation, and benefits administration.
  • Well-developed time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, including recruitment, performance
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • 10+ years of Human Resources and operations experience in a high growth environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office, (computer systems, programs, software)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent follow through
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, and senior management.
  • Ability to present information in a concise and easily understood manner
  • SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proven experience as an HR leader in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Solid understanding of labor laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications or related field.
