Director of Health Equity and Wellness
Garden State Equality is seeking a Director of Health Equity and Wellness to manage, with the supervision and assistance of the Deputy Director, Garden State Equality’s robust Health Equity programs.The Director will be responsible for managing the life cycles of all but not limited to the following programs throughout the state of New Jersey: the Affirming Healthcare Map, Tobacco Cessation, Older Adult, and Vulnerable Populations Projects. The Director will oversee the Health Equity team to execute quality programming, while combating the disparities the LGBTQ+ community faces in regards to healthcare.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming:
- Ability to build strong connections within the community and foster collaborations with local partners.
- Work with the Deputy Director and Health Equity and Wellness Team to meet all grant deliverables.
- Work with the Deputy Director to develop a plan for program delivery, maintaining quality, and measuring impact.
- Work with Health Equity and Wellness Team to facilitate trainings for healthcare providers, older adult facilities, and vulnerable populations.
- Cover program delivery when needed, including grant projects.
- Develop organization’s signature Health & Wellness Symposium.
- Work with the Education Director to create Health Equity and Wellness-focused trainings and outreach to healthcare providers, older adult facilities, and vulnerable populations.
- Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Director of Health Equity and Wellness is responsible for overseeing the implementation of all Health Equity and Wellness programs.
- Assess programs and feedback, and implement quality improvement initiatives, while developing innovative ideas for programming.
Budgeting & Grant Management:
- Work with the Deputy Director and Development team on budgeting and grant proposals.
- Work with the Deputy Director to develop annual Health Equity Budgets.
- Support and maintain financial management, bookkeeping systems/files and financial reporting as they pertain to Health and Wellness Programs.
- The Health Equity Director may be asked to conduct research which supports new proposals.
Management:
- Work with Health Equity Project Managers and Coordinators to ensure services are consistent, engaging, and relevant to the individuals served.
- Review and evaluate staff performance and annual reviews.
- Work with the Deputy Director in goal-setting for the Health and Wellness Team.
- Oversee all Health Equity Project Managers and Coordinators.
- Work to create project lifecycle including deadlines, milestones, and logic models.
- Cover program delivery when needed, including grant projects.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE
- Strong attention to detail.
- BA or equivalent in a related field preferred, plus minimum of 3 years’ experience in program development and work in the fields of education, organizational development, and social justice (with a concentration in LGBTQ+ healthcare).
- Willingness and flexibility to engage in occasional weekend, evening, and overnight residential programs.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer proficiency in Google Workspace and Windows/Microsoft Office environment, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the organization’s anti-racist values and practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative independently.
- Experience working directly with healthcare professionals or in a healthcare facility with healthcare professionals, community leaders, medical schools, and/or community groups.
- Experience with forecasting, developing, managing, and modifying budgets to execute deliverables, and meet the needs of both the program and organization.
- Experience working in a leadership capacity with diverse groups.
- Listening, trust building, and interpersonal skills with ability to influence, engage, and build relationships with both staff and stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and implement programs related to Garden State Equality’s mission, vision, and philosophy.
- Spanish-language proficiency preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop high performing and diverse teams who deliver on ambitious goals and benchmarks.
- Demonstrated strong facilitation and group leadership skills.
- An understanding of assessment and measurement tools.
- Strong presentation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Must have own car, valid driver’s license, and auto liability insurance.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced working environment.
- The ability to collaboratively develop curriculum for educational programming pertaining to issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and healthcare.
- Record of building coalitions and partnerships with like-minded organizations.
- A strong personal commitment to Garden State Equality’s mission and work in all facets with a concentration in Health Equity and Wellness.
- A familiarity with and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and issues of diversity and inclusion, with knowledge of how those issues impact health and wellbeing.
- Ability to provide teams with a clear sense of direction under tight timelines, especially in times of change.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds.

Full-time annual salary commensurate with experience.
