Position Details
Tilson is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Director of Fleet, Facilities, and Equipment to lead and oversee the management, maintenance, and optimization of our organization's extensive fleet of vehicles, facilities, and equipment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our operations through effective planning, resource allocation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has experience in a growth organization, is highly organized and understands how to lead with composure, humor and grace through excellent communication and follow-through.
Responsibilities:
Fleet & Driver Management
  • Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Marketing teams to be a SME on fleet, maintenance, driver compliance and behavior. Manage monthly educational company newsletters and an annual Fleet Week event.
  • Optimize fleet utilization, minimize downtime, and improve overall cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fleet management strategy, including vehicle acquisition, maintenance, and disposal, to meet operational needs and budgetary goals.
  • Scale internal team appropriately for departmental and company-wide growth
  • Analyze fleet and driver data to identify trends, performance metrics, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Delivery and Finance teams to negotiate favorable terms with vendors and suppliers that supports market needs and national scaling objectives.
  • Implement best practices for preventive maintenance, repair, and inspection of the fleet, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Facilities Management
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans and business continuity strategies for facilities.
  • Manage lease agreements, property contracts, and related vendor relationships.
  • Oversee facility maintenance, repairs, renovations, and upgrades, coordinating with internal teams and external contractors as needed.
  • Lead the strategic planning and maintenance of company facilities, ensuring they provide a safe, efficient, and productive environment for employees and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and sustainability initiatives.
Equipment Management:
  • Monitor equipment performance, conduct regular inspections, and implement maintenance schedules to extend operational lifespan.
  • Collaborate with operations and production teams to ensure timely availability and functionality of equipment.
  • Establish processes for the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of equipment, machinery, and tools necessary for efficient operations.
  • Evaluate equipment needs, recommend upgrades, and justify capital investments based on ROI analysis.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Be the cultural tone and pace-setter as a leader at Tilson. Uphold Tilson values at all times.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, safety, and environmental compliance, to align strategies and achieve organizational goals.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Be a clear, timely and effective communicator with all internal stakeholders, external vendors and partners, and executive leadership, providing regular updates on departmental performance, challenges, and opportunities that have the most significant impact on market and company success.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a high-performing team responsible for fleet, facilities, and equipment management.
Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to state and federal fleet safety, facilities compliance, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with telecommunications, construction and utility overhead and underground fleet and equipment preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans while managing day-to-day operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed and travel up to 20% within the US
  • Proven track record of driving efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and process optimization. Experience with financial modeling a plus.
  • Strong understanding of fleet management software, facilities management systems, and equipment maintenance tools.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven experience in fleet, facilities, and equipment management, with 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated comfort and confidence overcoming unexpected challenges, individually and leading a team through uncertainty.
