Job Description
The Manager of Facilities and Maintenance is an administrative and technical working manager overseeing Zoo owned assets, trades, and permit retention in addition to ensuring compliance with regulatory and government agencies.

Your day to day
  • Oversee all operations of the facilities office, including
  • Schedule and oversee all permitting for EPA, DEP, UV Filtration, Mechanical Rides and other permits as required.
  • Manages trades to insure proper work flow and product.
  • Input and maintain PM schedules for facilities, rides and vehicles, including golf carts, heavy equipment, lifts, etc.
  • Communicate concisely and effectively with senior zoo management and other departments on status of work orders, ride closures and material deliveries
  • Maintains inventory records and files.
  • Provide research, approve and negotiate purchasing for new products and materials to be used in the facility; assist other areas with purchasing as assigned.
  • Help to support the key management control program.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a blueprint and specification library for Zoo facilities; coordinate the updating of building maps and drawings as needed.
  • Meets as necessary with contractors and suppliers to obtain proposals or quotes.
  • Participates in facilities assessments, preventive maintenance, and other management control programs
  • Assists maintenance warehouse operations
  • Track and report on safety training, support PPE usage, and otherwise promote safety culture.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Handle all aspects of material procurement for the facilities department including maintenance, construction and events; assist other operational departments with purchasing/procurement, budget reconciliation as assigned.
  • Compiles data for special reports.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the facilities’ shop and warehouse area along with other maintenance leadership.
  • Collects and edits physical inventory data for use in a computerized inventory.
  • Develop and create weekly, monthly and yearly reports and data collection labor tracking, Purchase Orders, water analysis, EPA and DEP reports
  • Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
  • Complete all paperwork for: invoices, billings, Purchase Orders, employee and New Hire paperwork, annual ride inspections, ride manuals, material delivery packing slips and fuel usage logs. Act as the main contact with vendors and Finance for billing, scheduling, and payments
  • Manage departmental leave requests, tracking and time sheet approvals via Paycor
  • Oversees the receipt, processing, and data entry of maintenance/repair requests (work orders) through the automated work order system and radio. If necessary, assists with preparing work schedules.
  • Supports facility-related requests from other department directors as needed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Strong organizational skills and follow through,
  • Considerable Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
  • Working knowledge of facilities maintenance and operations
  • Deal courteously and tactfully with employees, peers, superiors, and the general public
  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school and considerable experience related to this class of work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to complete projects correctly in a reasonable time frame
  • Excel skills and ability to learn work order system.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Effective communication skills—ability to develop positive relationships with members of all departments
  • At least 2 years of experience in progressively responsible general management role; operations experience within the Zoo a plus
  • Motivated self-starter- Must be able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to plan for, work, and staff specials events and exhibits as well as be available for unexpected shifts
  • Must have ability to navigate paved as well as rough construction sites
  • Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold)
