SARASOTA ORCHESTRA IS RECRUITING NOW FOR A DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES AND SPECIAL PROJECTS!

As the oldest continuing orchestra in the state of Florida, each year the 76-member Orchestra performs more than 100 classical, pops, chamber music, and community outreach concerts.

Job Title: Director of Facilities & Special Projects

Department: Facilities

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Classification: Full-time, Salary/Exempt

Supervises: Facilities Manager

Location: Sarasota, FL


General Summary:

Oversees all facility and building operations for the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center consisting of both office and performance spaces. Responsible for special projects related to the orchestra building and operations as assigned.


Responsibilities:

Facility Management

· Supervises the Facility Manager and Facility Assistant; provides direction for the maintenance and repair activities of the Facility Assistant. Ensures all building projects and maintenance requirements are carried out successfully.

· Oversees the execution of major facility-related contracts and ensures compliance; addresses any issues or problems as they arise. Reviews with Facility Manager maintenance, Food & Beverage, and rental contracts.

· Annually evaluates the Preventative Maintenance plan and five-year plan for capital projects to ensure operational stability.

· Reviews staffing schedules to ensure facilities presence at all Orchestra Center events.

· Establish and maintain organizational structure of facility related paper and server files.

Disaster Planning and Safety

· Responsible for writing, revising and implementing the Orchestra’s Hurricane Plan, Continuity of Operations Plan and Safety Handbook. Provides annual Hurricane Plan orientation to staff with storm preparation responsibilities.

· Serves as the Emergency Response Team Manager and coordinates the response of the Organization when emergency plans are activated.

· Monitors changing weather conditions and forecasts for hurricane-related emergencies, advising the leadership team on hurricane plan activation levels. Monitors and promulgates federal, state, and local government information and guidance in pandemic emergencies.

· Responsible for ensuring the security and safety of the building and its personnel at all times. Ensures proper management of building protocols and alarm system.

· Leads the Orchestra’s Safety Committee, responsible for maintaining the Orchestra’s safety protocols and handbook.

Other Duties

· Reviews annual facility budget prepared by Facility Manager and prepares facility related capital budgets. Coordinates with Facilities Manager on budget-related review and projects.

· Responsible for higher-level facilities and operational projects as assigned, including support for the Orchestra’s future transition to a new Music Center.

· Serve as the Orchestra’s liaison with The Bay Conservancy and City staff, building a collaborative relationship to assist with function of Orchestra Center on the City’s land lease and adjacent to The Bay park.

· Performs other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned. Duties and responsibilities described herein are not a comprehensive list, and additional job tasks may be assigned from time to time as necessitated by the Facilities department and business needs.


Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree required

· 5+ years Facilities Management experience

· 3-5+ years Supervisory experience

· 2+ years financial reporting and budgeting experience

· Ability to interact with staff, musicians, conductors, house manager, ushers, patrons in a positive and professional manner

· Flexible schedule; ability to work nights and weekends as needed

· Computer literacy; OPAS data experience preferred but not essential (will train)

· 3- 5 yrs. experience with building systems and project management

· Ability to create and/or revise facility maps and facility-related graphics in Visio or other CAD or graphics program

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Certification in CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens, or willingness to obtain Certification

· Attention to detail and accuracy required

· Self-starter; ability to independently oversee and manage facilities for the organization


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, push, pull, lift, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The worker is required to have visual acuity to view a computer terminal, determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned, and to make observations of the facility and structure. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-20 pounds, but this position may obtain assistance with lifting objects if necessary.


Working Conditions:

The job operates in a professional office environment and performance hall settings. The environment is generally moderate in temperature and noise level. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. In-person office work required, with some remote work authorized as assigned by Supervisor.
