Description:

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is looking or a part-time Director of Counseling Services (“Director”) who will help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and well-being by providing timely and appropriate mental health counseling, educational services, and consultations. The incumbent will provide individual and group counseling along with crisis intervention, outreach, consultations, and prevention education. In conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Director will oversee the off-campus referral program, and, as needed, refer students to other student support services.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an interest in additional health and wellness issues of student musicians including, but not limited to, general well-being, nutrition, fitness, hearing health, and performance-related musculoskeletal disorders and injuries.
  • Ensure confidentiality and privacy as mandated by state and federal laws. Comply with all state and federal regulations regarding the practice of counseling in a college environment.
  • Communicate and network with Bay Area health providers, psychiatric facilities in crisis situations, and counseling centers.
  • Proactively and independently organize, develop, and conduct educational programs on a variety of topics for students, faculty, staff, and parents/families. Encourage self-awareness, personal responsibility, and healthy interpersonal relationships within a diverse environment.
  • Utilize generalist skills and an ability to diagnose to provide brief treatment to students through individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis response, consultation, brief assessment, and referrals to outside specialists as needed.
Requirements:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends
  • Experience working in a higher education counseling center and/or with student musicians is a plus
  • Multilingual communication in Mandarin, Korean, or Spanish is a plus
  • Knowledge of electronic health records systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required
  • Preferred qualifications: hold the required licensure, or have completed the appropriate training, to supervise a counseling intern or psychological assistant as defined by the appropriate board or oversight authority;
  • Current independent licensure to practice as a psychologist, LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in the State of California by appointment hire date

Schedule

This is a part-time nonexempt position, and hours are variable. On average, we anticipate that the incumbent will work around 20 hours per week.
