The Director of Business Development and Strategy is charged with creating strategic business partnerships and driving new revenue sources for World Centric. Because this position is part of an emerging group, it requires a self-starter with proven collaboration, analytic and leadership skills. Executing a proactive sales strategy that follows a documented process is a priority for this position. This person will be expected to work collaboratively with:
- The marketing team to develop, execute and clearly document follow up of marketing promotions and campaigns
- The product development team to determine market potential for proposed new products and to develop go-to-market strategies for these new offerings
- The sales process manager and supply chain to ensure new opportunities are accurately forecasted and appropriate expectations are set for potential customers
- The sales team to organize and follow up on existing and new leads within the regional foodservice and retail networks
- The resource recovery and sustainability team to ensure sales collateral and messaging pitched to customers is appropriately balanced with accurate educational industry information and point of sale messaging
The Director of Business Development and Strategy is expected to close large national opportunities. This will be achieved by supporting the Business Development Managers that are pursuing large opportunities as well as independent efforts. A level of comfort pitching to highly sophisticated foodservice, food and CPG packaging operators is a requirement for this role. This position will use foodservice market data to determine opportunities for growth, develop strategies to capture that growth potential and hire business development managers and/or brokers to support these growth efforts. The Director of Business Development will determine sales channels and potential customers for new products in development.
Responsibilities/Expectations
- Set regional and channel specific customer and sales goals.
- Develop a framework for the Business Development Managers to follow to generate new leads.
- Work with Sales Process Manager to review all opportunities are accurately forecasted in Netsuite.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish rapport and influence others, both externally and internally.
- Determine market potential for new products and develop go-to-market strategies for these products.
- Develop new tools and execute new processes to support a successful sales cycle in collaboration with the sales team to establish overall company sales goals.
- Assess market trends, research market competition and develop cohesive win themes to help World Centric capture/expand market share.
- Use NetSuite CRM tool to review customer records and correspondences, tasks and sales related activities input by BD Managers.
- Monitor and stay abreast of regional conditions and competitive intelligence and effectively communicate findings across the organization.
- Set goals and objectives for sales & hold the BD team accountable.
- Make effective, fact-based presentations.
- Track and report on progress, communicate results, hold self-accountable for desired results.
Requirements
- Ability to learn quickly, demonstrate product and customer knowledge
- Minimum B.A or B.S degree
- Experience analyzing market and sales trends and data
- Ability to establish rapport, trust and strong business relationships, at all levels of the organization
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Minimum 8-10 years’ business development activity experience with demonstrated success in sales
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to provide detailed, accurate, thorough information
- Strong computer and systems skills
- Experience successfully leading teams through growth and change
- Experience with CRM, leads/sales management systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- Demonstrate a humble, consultative, educational approach
Logistics
● Reports directly to the VP of Sales
● Location is flexible however, travel will be required, with some expected overnights depending on location. Travel to Atlanta and Northern California locations periodically throughout the year, as well as to potential customer sites is expected and will vary from month to month
