The Director of Business Development develops, initiates, coordinates, and reviews all aspects of business opportunities aligned with the Shriners Children's Hawaii mission to increase services lines and patient volumes ("More Children in more places"). Utilizes quantitative and qualitative data systems and other resources to evaluate and recommends expansion to leadership, medical staff, Board of Governors, and other key stakeholders. Core functions include but are not limited to, business plan development, implementation and review, physician referral development, strategic planning, and reporting of critical statistics to Corporate Planning and Business Development. The Director of Business Development works closely and collaboratively with the Donor Development and Marketing teams on shared areas of patient and provider reach.


Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to


  • Proper justification, sourcing, methodology and/or theory must be present and demonstrated in all reporting.
  • The primary focus of this position will be the internal and external evaluation and strategic enhancement of the mission of the organization.
  • This role will have a matrixed relationship with local leaders within the organization to include local Administrator.
  • The director will research, analyze through various methods, and compile reports, presentations and summaries of valid and reliable findings for system leaders to include local facility leaders, Governing Boards, Home Office leaders, and other key stakeholders for Shriners Children's Hawaii.
  • Business plan development, business plan implementation, manage physician referral development, strategic planning, affiliation evaluation, and production of ad hoc reports as well as coordination of activities with other areas of the organization.


Bachelor's Degree in related field. Masters or graduate level education in pertinent field of study preferred.


Seven (7) years progressive healthcare experience required. Ten (10) years of experie in a progressive multi-hospital health system setting preferred.


Must possess strong oral, interpersonal, written, presentation and communication skills. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to multitask and prioritize projects. Work collaboratively and effectively with other departments.


Knowledge of healthcare environment and delivery systems, including but not limited to, method and theory related to decision support for the healthcare environment. Ability to effectively and efficiently manage projects and implementation of strategic initiatives.


Experience in developing statistical methods for decision support with the ability to recognize, develop and verify tests for validity and reliability in complex data sets. Familiar with opportunity assessments and knowledge in the access, development and use of internal and external market database systems to include data from internal and external transaction systems, including comprehensive market analysis. Project development and management skills, process improvement knowledge, including healthcare analytical skills, operational and financial reporting. Knowledge in creative problem-solving and decision-making.
