Job Description

Outsourcing Center of Excellence (OCOE) Overview:

The AbbVie Outsourcing COE mission is to partner with stakeholders to develop and deliver the AbbVie Outsourcing strategy and drive sustainable value through AbbVie’s Outsourcing relationships while mitigating the associated risks. The OCOE leads the development and implementation of the governance framework to ensure achievement of AbbVie’s short term and long-term Outsourcing objectives while also establishing the enterprise risk mitigation strategy for outsourced activities across the enterprise. The OCOE collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure that Service Providers are meeting the needs of the business and delivering the contracted value to AbbVie

Position Overview:

The Director, Outsourcing Strategy and Governance will provide consulting to AbbVie IT (BTS) and Business owners and ensure that they are managing IT Outsourcing providers for Application and Infrastructure according to the AbbVie Enterprise Outsourcing Governance Program and offer consultative support as needed throughout the Outsourcing lifecycle. This position is accountable for maximizing the value attained from AbbVie’s IT Outsourcing agreements, ensuring that both AbbVie and service providers fulfill their contractual, performance, and financial obligations

Key Responsibilities Include:

As it relates to IT Outsourcing Services:

  • Leveraging best practice principles to effectively manage the IT outsourcing providers.
  • Leveraging outsourcing market information, best practices, and service provider profiles to support risk management activities and fuel strategic insight.
  • Delivering all outsourcing deliverables, related contracts, and other compliance documents in support of AbbVie Business needs
  • Analyze organizational needs and design processes using internal and external knowledge in a collaborative manner and be able to envision the impact potential business processes could have cross functionally prior to implementation.
  • Demonstrates an expert level of outsourcing and technical competencies across multiple contract types. Highly competent in negotiation and contracting business standards. Responsible for reviewing contracts and associated documents, prior to execution, and resolve issues that prevent timely execution.
  • Communicate, liaise, and train internal stakeholders on the sourcing and contracting process and managing the life cycle of a contract. Demonstrate SME knowledge and leadership by providing key strategic support and leadership in cross functional process improvement initiatives.
  • Manages and facilitates the Governance framework, including training for internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure the performance, development, and maintenance of effective collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitates change management activities with the service provider as well as the internal organization as it relates to bringing Outsourcing services back in house, changing Outsourcing services, strategic changes, etc.
  • Facilitates risk and compliance activities to ensure Infrastructure Outsourcing service providers are compliant with internal and external policies and regulations.
  • Planning, implementation and tracking initiatives to drive continuous service and process improvements.
  • Function as IT SME for strategic sourcing initiatives as requested. Lead or provide guidance to Stakeholders for complex negotiations to maximize the value of the negotiation and ensure SME expertise is provided for complex negotiation situations.
  • Provide clear guidance and SME expertise to support, train, manage and mentor direct reports.
  • Promote AbbVie as the partner of choice in all external communications and dealings to build the AbbVie brand.

Basic requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 6-8 years of extensive experience managing and delivering large IT programs (Applications and Infrastructure) from requirements gathering to production implementation and support.
  • Experience or in-depth understanding of DevOps, DevSecOps, Agile methodologies, AI, RPA.
  • 4-8 years of experience in Sourcing and IT/Infrastructure Outsourcing, working directly with Service Providers, and managing contracts
  • Experience in administrating outsourcing contracts and success at documenting and administering the following contractual terms: Service Level Methodology, Resource Units, Pricing Methodology & Appropriateness, Commercial terms and sourcing specific terms
  • Consultative, process driven thinking with a focus on continuous improvements.
  • Ability to leverage relationships and partner with internal teams to help them achieve their objectives.
  • Excellent supplier relationship building, supplier expectation management, resource planning
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple projects/programs.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey overall engagement objectives and maintain open lines of communication between the internal stakeholders and the service providers.
  • Strong analytical skills to review supplier proposals/solutions, resolve supplier management issues, and conduct research.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility, garners support, and works effectively with internal stakeholders and divisions.
  • Experience influencing and escalating within a matrixed organization to drive decisions.

  • MBA and/or equivalent work experience
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
