Description:


Under general direction, plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs department activities and personnel to ensure the effective delivery of patient care services in assigned areas. In co-operation with appropriate Medical Staff, markets and promotes services to the region we serve. Is instrumental in promoting quality of life for patients, personnel and the community served.

What You Will Do


  • Within the constraints of the Medical Center's strategic plan and direction, maintains and improves all elements of Cardiovascular Services.
  • Identifies educational and training needs of the staff. Provides input and assistance with the educational programs in consultation with Staff Development and Continuing Education.
  • Maintains effective relationships, demonstrates diplomacy and interacts closely with the Medical Director of Cardiology and the Chairperson of the Cardiovascular Leadership Council through promoting communication and co-operative problem solving.
  • Reflects the skills, knowledge and abilities that individuals use as they serve in the role of a leader. The following provides examples of specific behaviors that correspond with MercyOne and Trinity Health leadership competencies:
  • Is knowledgeable of and assures departmental/program implementation of quality and risk management while providing a quality customer/guest relations program.
  • Prepares cost analysis and proposals on new services.
  • Employee may periodically be requested to drive.
  • In cooperation with marketing staff, markets and promotes outreach cardiology services to surrounding clinics and institutions. Provides consultative services on equipment selection and systems as requested. Monitors effectiveness of marketing, outreach and promotional efforts.
  • Identifies and prioritizes market opportunities including opportunities for joint initiatives with other providers.
  • Aligns resources toward achievement of Unified Enterprise Ministry results (UEM).
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of short and long-range strategic business plans related to MercyOne Medical Center’s Heart Center Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborates with medical staff with ongoing communication and participation in various MSO committees. Is responsible for facilitating the Cardiovascular Leadership Council.
  • Collaborates with and directs cost center managers and coordinates in the development of departmental goals, objectives and operational plans that fit into the departmental and facility budget allocations while providing justification for out-of-budget programs, expenses and reserves.
  • Assists the supervisors with the development of the annual payroll, budget, and compliance with the revenue and expense guidelines.
  • Identifies, leads, embraces change.
  • Defines and shares a strategy and vision.
  • Through general direction of cost center managers, provides safe, economical and efficient patient services in accordance with quality standards and documents same on clinical records.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art technical and managerial skills in cost centers by review of literature, professional journals and by participation in professional organizations.
  • Develops and implements annual operating budgets and annual and long-range capital budgets.
  • Is responsible for creating an environment of organizational learning about patient safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge, and fosters behavioral changes to improve patient safety. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy and Procedure.
  • Grows and sustains the UEM.


What We Are Looking For


  • Successful individual should be a mature executive with a professional appearance/demeanor, excellent character, integrity and commitment.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and other allied health professionals.
  • May be requested to travel within the Siouxland region. When assigned to travel, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of MercyOne and Trinity Health.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Individual should be dynamic, creative and intelligent.
  • BSN, Respiratory Therapist or other related clinical degree preferred. . (If RN or licensed professional, must have current license in the state of Iowa.)
  • Requires a minimum of five years experience in a health care setting.
  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
  • Requires a minimum of three to five year’s progressive management experience.
  • Must have thorough working knowledge of physician practice business/management, hospital department operations, overall healthcare business, and financial management principles and policies, usually gained through a minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of broad scope experience within the health care industry. Specific experience with both physician employment and physician practice operations preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal/listening skills to interact effectively with individuals of all backgrounds, experience and educational levels.
  • Must be able to function effectively under stress.
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, business/administration or related field. Masters in related field required.
