River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration.
We are currently seeking a forward thinking and compassionate Director of Dietary Services/Registered Dietitian to be part of our Dietary Services Team. The Director of Dietary Services/Registered Dietitian is responsible in overseeing and providing overall support and guidance to the department. The Dietitian approves menus including modified diets from the hospital, provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed, and counsels patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation and nutritional principles. Monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department and provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs. Registered Dietitian meets regularly with CEO and CFO to coordinate operational needs. In addition, the Registered Dietitian meets regularly with CNO to coordinate clinical needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years dietary experience in a health care facility, with concentration in nutritional assessment and planning preferred.
Licensure: Registered Dietitian (RD) licensure to practice dietetics in the state of California.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Dietitian
- Perform nutritional assessments in a timely manner.
- Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
- May inspect meal assembly to ensure trays conform to prescribed diet and meet standards.
- Provide guidance to Food Service Manager/Director and other food service staff as needed.
- Plan modified diets for patients as requested by attending physician/licensed practitioner.
- Review patients' charts to determine need for nutritional assessments.
- Conduct monthly inspections of the Dietary Services Department.
- Coordinate Dietary Services Department within The Joint Commission standards for food service and assist Food Service Manager/Director as needed.
- Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
- Consider the implications of the aging process in the provision of nutrition.
- Document patient charts with nutritional planning, and update as changes in nutritional needs occur.
- Consult with patients and family members concerning dietary needs and goals.
- May instruct patients and/or families regarding diet therapy programs.
- Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
- Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
- Plan and execute monthly in-services for dietary and food service employees.
- Communicate patient special nutritional needs to the Food Service Manager/Director in a timely fashion.
- Monitor and document patients care in regards to therapeutic diets.
- Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Dietary Services Director
- Quality food services.
- Complete reports and update the CFO in the departmental activities on a regular basis.
- Ensure that the food services staff is maintaining an ongoing record of food temperatures, refrigerator, freezer and dish machine temperatures.
- Identify opportunities to improve services, develop Action Plans and ensure actions are taken to implement these changes.
- Assist with developing the Food Service Department's Performance Improvement and Quality
- Provide leadership and management to all food service staff, and conduct departmental meetings
- Establish and maintain a level of proficiency in the food service staff to ensure provision of
- Ensure the Food Service Department is managed to meet department, facility and company-wide goals and objectives in a cost-effective manner.
- Provide counseling and progressive discipline to food service staff, when necessary, and as defined in the facility's policies and procedures.
- Evaluate the food service staff performance, within departmental and facility policies and

- Develop, review, and implement the Dietary Services department policies and procedures and make revisions as needed.

- Provide the food service staff with adequate equipment/supplies and ensure all equipment is maintained in good working condition at all times.
- Serve on Facility Committees (i.e. IOP, Safety and Infection Control) and attend meetings as assigned.
- Provide in-service education and orientation to the food service staff, and when appropriate, to
- Provide for a sanitary work environment and monitor sanitation and infection control practices to allow for the safe delivery of meals.
- Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
- Management plan and coordinate with other departments to develop and carry out the facility-wide IOP plan with the Registered Dietitian.
- Maintain relationships with approved vendors, and monitor products purchased for quality and cost effectiveness.
- Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
- Consult with the dietician regarding the nutritional needs of patients.
- Issues/problems, and maintain a level of staff morale which projects a positive image of the
- Ensure staff retention through recognition of efforts, providing opportunities to discuss any
- Approve all menus and make food service provision relevant to dietary requirements for patients on therapeutics diets and applicable to patient’s special needs.
- Demonstrate a professional attitude and support the objectives of the facility guest relations philosophy through internal and external communications and interactions with all levels of staff patients, family members, guests, community and referral sources.
- Work closely with the facility Safety Committee in providing a safe working environment for all food service employees.
- Responsible for purchasing food, storage of food, monitoring inventory, food preparation, and quality service.
- Procedures, and ensure completion of performance evaluations on scheduled time frames.
- Monitor the equipment in the department for safety and efficiency and if problems arise, notify plant operations immediately for corrections.
- Consult with the Facility CEO, Registered Dietitian, Director of Nursing, and Medical Director when problem situations arise.
- To consistently improve service.
- Participate in the development of the Dietary Services department's budget and ensure it is maintained to an acceptable level.
