Job Description
A pioneer in K–12 education since 2000, Amplify is leading the way in next-generation curriculum and assessment. Our core and supplemental programs in ELA, math, and science engage all students in rigorous learning and inspire them to think deeply, creatively, and for themselves. Our formative assessment products help teachers identify the targeted instruction students need to build a strong foundation in early reading and math. All of our programs provide educators with powerful tools that help them understand and respond to the needs of every student. Today, Amplify serves more than 10 million students in all 50 states. For more information, visit amplify.com.
Please Note: Applications will only be accepted until COB on Monday, August 14th, 2023.
We’re on a mission to help every student learn math and love learning math. Our free tools and activities are used by tens of millions of students and teachers around the world. Our
middle school and Algebra 1 curriculum
blends both paper and digital tasks to support social classrooms, invite mathematical creativity, and provoke wonder. We are continuing to round out our high school curriculum and are revising our middle school curriculum based on feedback from teachers and students.
We’re seeking individuals with at least five years of 6–12 classroom teaching experience to collaborate with us in creating student-facing and teacher-facing resources to accompany new lessons, as well as to revise and strengthen what we’ve already built. You will develop materials designed to support students in synthesizing and practicing what they have learned as well as resources to support teachers in developing mathematical community, facilitating powerful conversations, and supporting all students to see their brilliance.
You’ll also join us in the work of learning about systemic inequity in education, and identifying and attending to the needs of marginalized and excluded communities in order to build a curriculum that supports all students.
This role is a great fit for you if you have strong opinions about what works in math education, like thinking about what it means to communicate through writing, and the ability to help us understand the perspectives of people who are historically marginalized and excluded in mathematics, education, and technology. You have experience honoring students’ brilliance, championing teachers, and designing for real classrooms and are eager to collaborate to build and support students to love math and love learning math. You also enjoy holding different perspectives and meeting different needs at once.
This position will include:
  • An open invitation to participate in bi-weekly Curriculum Developer meetings and Slack channels relevant to your work.
  • Weekly meetings with a manager who will support you and your work. This frequency can be adjusted over time.
  • A combination of synchronous and asynchronous tasks.
  • Collaboration with a full-time Curriculum Developer for support and training and some collaboration with lesson developers and other members of the curriculum team.
Amplify’s COVID-19 vaccination policy requires all staff to provide proof of vaccination for in-person meetings unless an approved exemption is provided.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
  • At least five years of 6–12 classroom teaching experience
  • Experience developing 6–12 mathematics curricula (e.g., student-facing lessons, teacher-facing resources).
On your first day, you should show up ready to:
  • Explain what makes teacher moves more or less helpful for facilitating lessons.
  • Share your passion for supporting unfinished learning, supporting students with disabilities, and/or supporting multilingual learners.
  • Articulate ways in which technology can help students learn math as well as ways in which technology can hinder students and teachers.
  • Describe the qualities, features, and resources that make for a great math curriculum.
  • Explain how marginalized and excluded communities are affected by the current math education system, and what role curriculum might play in addressing that reality.
Responsibilities:
What you’ll learn more about after you’re hired:
  • Our philosophies for technology, design, pedagogy, and equity.
  • The processes and tools we use to organize our work.
  • The unique features of the curriculum we’re building.
  • Our workflow for developing a new unit of lessons and resources, from initial brainstorming all the way to final release.
Within your first month you’ll:
  • Introduce yourself on Slack to your new co-workers!
  • Familiarize yourself with the existing systems for writing teacher notes, accessibility, and multilingual learner supports, asking thoughtful questions along the way. You’ll continue to support and be supported by the rest of the curriculum team throughout your tenure.
  • Write some teacher moves, accessibility, and student supports, for existing lessons using Desmos Math 6-A1, Amplify Desmos Math print, and other style guides as resources.
Within your first three months you’ll:
  • Contribute to the development of the Amplify Desmos Math curriculum by creating print companions, teacher notes, accessibility, and multilingual learner supports for lessons in Math 6, 7, 8, and Algebra 1.
  • Be a part of conversations about ways to improve processes and products to better serve the team of folks writing teacher notes or the teachers and students these notes serve.
  • Identify ways that our equity principles can further inform our approach to curriculum development, both in terms of the products we make and the processes we use to make them.
Compensation:
The hourly rate range for this role is $45.00
Please Note: Applications will only be accepted until COB on Monday, August 14th.
