NOTE: This is a Hybrid role going into the New Albany, Ohio office location three times a week. It is written at the lower grade level and expectations increase with higher grade level. This single vacancy is posted in more than one grade level and will be filled based on commensurate education, experience and interview at either Data Scientist Sr. (Grade 8) or Data Scientist Principle (Grade 9) (Internal Applicants who are already in one of these grades this will be considered a lateral move.)

Department: Transmission System and Asset Monitoring (TSAM) is responsible for ownership of numerous grid focused data infrastructures and Asset Health Center (AHC) monitoring to support Energy Delivery Operations (EDOps), Transmission Field Services (TFS) and other Engineering teams inside AEP aiding data driven decisions. Our focus is to provide our downstream customers with the data / analysis needed for advanced analytics, condition-based maintenance and inspections, condition-based renewal and planning and prevention of catastrophic failures of our EHV equipment.

Position Summary:

• Provide Data Science support in the creation of new AI/ML predictive analytics dashboards / platforms to be leveraged throughout AEP for Asset Health / Condition Based Maintenance activities and for prevention of catastrophic failure of substation assets to align with AEP EDOps roadmap.
• Responsible for leading the analysis and interpretation of data and development of actionable insights and recommendations for high-value business challenges for specific business units. This includes leading discussions with stakeholders to identify value opportunities with company data. Conceives and directs development of predictive and prescriptive systems to optimize operations and support strategic initiatives, using innovative information technology and data science methods. Designs and delivers clear messages using the best visualization methods to support management decision making. Mentors junior data scientists on technical methodology and business acumen.
• TSAM Specific Accountabilities:
• Develop new models and maintenance of existing TSAM models, (training & maintaining) used for advanced data analytics around business unit needs and expanding ways to add in more capabilities and reliability
• Develop new data quality dashboards for TSAM’s monitoring systems to be leveraged by the TSAM’s Asset Health Data Monitoring Center desk (AHDMC)
• This position must have a working knowledge of analytics and statistical software such as Power BI, SQL, R, Python, Excel, Hadoop, Tableau, SAS, SPSS, and others to perform analysis and interpret data.
• Assist with data cleaning and mapping substation assets (T-Lines, Battery, CB’s, UG Cables) into AHC Monitoring Software to improve the overall number of assets scored, working our way to 100% of assets addressed inside the software

DATA SCIENTIST SR (GRADE 8)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelors degree in mathematics, operations research, statistics, economics, data science, computer science or related technical field is required.

Experience: 5 years of relevant work experience is required.

An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Proficient and able to direct the use of analytics packages, such as SAS, R, SPSS.
• BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
