The City of Georgetown Water Utility is offering a part-time or full-time internship position based on the selected candidate's availability to assist the Utility Support Team with a data analytics project. The intern will work with the Water Utility Analyst in an office environment on software/web development, data science, development operations, and project management tasks. Learning opportunities include Public Administration, Data Governance, Cloud Operations, Microsoft Azure, SQL, Python 3, Data Engineering, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Git and GitHub, UI/UX, Web Development, etc. This internship can last up to 20 weeks from the date of hire.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and provide a project portfolio if available. This internship is ineligible for telecommuting.
  • Work with RESTful APIs.
  • Deploy solutions in a cloud environment using Microsoft Azure.
  • Use common libraries to develop Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning pipelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation.
  • Design and deploy a graphical, web-based, data-labelling application using Flask.
  • Write, test, and deploy Python modules and packages.
  • Use a Version Control System to interact with an in-development code base.
  • Coordinate with external teams to accomplish data governance and networking requirements.
  • Determine cloud server provisioning requirements for software.
  • Use software development project management techniques to design and plan a major project.
  • Collect, explore, structure, and enrich raw data in a data wrangling workflow.
  • Develop Train/Test datasets for use in supervised Machine Learning tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should be pursuing a degree or career in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related field.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about data science, machine learning, and data-driven decision making.
  • Understanding of fundamental programming concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Experience:
  • Hands-on programming experience with Python.
  • Experience with developing web applications using Flask.
  • Knowledge of agile project management concepts.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Hands-on experience writing SQL queries.
  • Technical experience with statistical analysis, data analysis, data modelling, and machine learning.

HIRING RANGE: $15.00 hourly.
This part-time or full-time internship is available for up to 20 weeks. This internship is ineligible for telecommuting.
