Bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, and two years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledgeable in the insurance industry, with a focus in underwriting, policy management and/or claims.

Duties Description

The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), Division of Confidential Investigations (DCI), is among the most active special investigations unit in the country, working with local, state, and federal authorities in the investigation, arrest and indictment of individuals and businesses suspected of fraud involving NYSIF. DCI’s mission is to reduce the instances of insurance fraud and abuse against NYSIF, and to prevent and mitigate fraud.

DCI has three investigative teams (Claims Fraud, Provider Fraud, and Premium Fraud) and a Data Analytics team. Business Analysts as well as the investigative team members handle matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.

Reporting to the Supervising Data Analyst, the Business Systems Analyst 1 will conduct analysis of workers compensation fraud, waste and abuse by claimants, policyholders and/or medical care providers throughout the state. Report of such analysis will highlight critical issues and remedial recommendations. The incumbent will also work as a liaison between stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to, and improvement of business processes, such as policy and claims management.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Apply knowledge of analytical systems and visual link analysis charts to reports.
• Use knowledge of structural query language to present tables in relational databases
• Continuously assess and enhance existing data analysis processes, methodologies, and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Create strategic or technical written reports and communicate actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
• Utilizing data mining techniques, tools, and interpretation of raw data to perform comprehensive analysis identifying hidden fraud patterns and recommending solutions.

This position may be filled in either Albany or New York City.
