The State of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Water Division, Drinking Water & Groundwater Bureau has a part time vacancy for an Environmental Technician III - Cyanobacteria Field Technician.
Summary:
Performs technical and data management tasks as well as field sampling to collect water quality data related to cyanobacteria monitoring of surface water used by public water systems as sources of drinking water. Manages and analyzes cyanobacteria monitoring data to better understand cyanobacteria trends and changes relevant to protecting public health from potential adverse effects associated with cyanotoxins that may be in waterbodies used by public drinking water sources.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree
Education: Associate's degree or two years from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in environmental engineering, one of the physical or biological sciences, or other related environmental science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two years of experience performing technical environmental work in air analysis, noise or water quality control, forestry, soils, hydrology, geology, botany, biology, or a related environmental field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification : Must possess a valid drivers' license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel. Must possess or be willing to obtain a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have knowledge of the following: experience collecting field samples including cyanobacteria sampling; an ability to compile, organize, and analyze technical data, apply computer skills to evaluate environmental data; apply technical standards and procedures; basic ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap mapping software skills; express ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Knowledge of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins is desired for this position.
Collects field samples and water quality data at public water system surface sources to include open water and shoreline collections.
Investigates complaints regarding potential cyanobacteria blooms in public drinking water sources.
Assists in evaluating data and writing reports to summarize or analyze collected data for the Bureau, public water systems, and the public.
Performs data formatting for automated data uploads and/or manual data entry to record water quality conditions relating to cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins.
Assists with operation and maintenance of field equipment.
Assists with planning and implementing educational outreach concerning cyanobacteria and cyanotoxin monitoring.
Uses geographic information systems (GIS) mapping software to create maps of public water system drinking water sources and monitoring sites.
Continually seeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department's mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
