Job Description

Macdonald & Company is pleased to be partnered with a real estate investment and development firm to find and appoint a controller to oversee their accounting and finance team in Dallas.


THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Controller, will be joining a high-growth full-service real estate investment, development, and finance firm. The company and its affiliates own and operate multifamily, office, industrial, and retail real estate in Texas.


THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure accuracy of company financial books and records.
  • Assist in monitoring the organization’s cash flow and real estate development capital needs.
  • Maintain the property general ledger and subsidiary ledgers and review for month-to-month variances.
  • Oversee full cycle accounting for multiple affiliated entities.
  • Prepare budgets and performance reports.
  • Communicate knowledgeably and professionally with company management, coworkers, outside accountants, and lenders.
  • Independently set up new project and entity accounts.
  • Manage consolidated multi-entry charts of accounts to facilitate multi-level financial analysis.
  • Review property invoices for proper coding and authorization and oversight of the AP process.
  • Prepare reconciliations quarterly for evaluation and annually for communication and collection from the tenants.
  • Perform financial analyses to support special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Assist in department reporting, strategic business planning and forecasting.


REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a knack toward conceptual finance.
  • BS/BA degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting.
  • CPA or CPA candidate advantageous but not required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to focus on task until completion, with an ability to leverage technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Experience with commercial real estate, including CAM Reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, including QuickBooks and property management accounting software.
  • Exceptional project management skills with a focus on attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
