Instructional Design and Development for E-learning

Type: Contract

Duration: 12 months with potential for extension

Reports to: Content Lead

Summary

The E-Learning Project Team at Water.org is seeking an experienced eLearning Instructional Designer + Developer to support the development of asynchronous online training modules, assets for a Learning Management System (LMS) platform, adaptation processes and capacity.

The modules are to meet the training needs of Water.org’s Financial Institution partners around the world.The Team is developing a suite of Global Online Training Modules to be adapted and localized to meet the specific needs of the partner staff.

The goal of the Instructional Designer is to support the development of short, online Global training modules that can be easily adapted by in-country staff and develop the templates, as well as the assets, processes, and skills to support the continued development and adaptation of modules.

This position will partner with a global team with varying levels of experience and formal training related to the development and offering of asynchronous training.The Instructional Designer will work closely with the Content Lead and the Customization lead.

The E-Learning Project Team is in the process of conducting a needs analysis to establish the curriculum, training goals and content.The Instructional Designer will be provided:

  1. Water.org Brand Guidelines
  2. Training Assessment Brief: audience profile, task analysis, learning needs and objectives
  3. Content Brief featuring: Content materials, links to assets (photos, videos), and guidance.

Objective:

  1. Establish the ability of Water.org to create training modules that meet the needs of Water.org’s partners.This includes the:
  2. Processes and guidance governing module development, adaptation, testing and refinement.
  3. Asset library and templates.
  4. Skills of the team to perform the duties of creation and adaptation.
  5. Develop a globally acceptable design and theme that conforms to brand requirements.
  6. Develop a suite of Global Modules that meet partner needs.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for:

  1. Being available to participate in in person and virtual workshops with representatives from global team.
  2. Reviewing B and C and providing feedback or posing follow-up questions as needed.
  3. Assessing the current skills and capacity of the team to create and adapt modules.
  4. Advising on the processes to govern the development, adaptation, testing and refinement of modules to meet user needs.
  5. Recommending appropriate testing and evaluation methods to measure course effectiveness based on an understanding of SCORM and LMS relationships.
  6. Creating a globally acceptable design template that conforms to brand guidelines featuring gamification.
  7. Creating or sourcing animated and non-animated graphics and assets.
  8. Establishing the library and filing system for templates, illustrations, thematic content, and assets in the shared folder of the instructional design software
  9. Developing and refining Global modules in accordance with A, B, C in partnership with project team.
  10. Build the capacity of the Water.org team to develop, adapt, and refine modules to meet user needs.

Key Requirements and qualifications:

Experience

  • Experience in testing and integrating feedback from a global audience with a range of language and literacy capabilities.
  • Experience in creating interactive and engaging courses
  • Experience in creating gamification and animation experience with instructional design software
  • Experience in developing courses for a global audience that are translated and adapted
  • Experience in developing courses for soft skills and concepts
  • Experience in creating short, micro courses that can be completed in under 7 minutes

Competencies/ SkillsAdvanced

  • Willingness and ability to build Water.org staff capability to take over the Instructional Design function and run it independent of the consultant.
  • Animation software
  • Knowledge of instructional design software
  • Graphic design software

Duration: 12 months - possible extension and additional work upon completion of assignment

Deliverables:

Initial skill assessment report.

Approved design prototype/template featuring gamification, animation and standard theme.

Steps/process to be followed to make customizations and adaptations as applicable in modules

Asset library including branded templates, staple illustrations and icons

Global Modules

Final skill assessment report.
