Position Focus:

Reporting to one of the Office of Sponsored Projects’ (OSP) Lead Contract Manager, Contract Manager (CM) provides support to the Yale Cancer Center’s (YCC) faculty and administrators regarding the successful negotiation of corporate clinical trial agreements (CTAs) and other related agreements. The CM is responsible for the negotiation/acceptance of awards on behalf of Yale University that support the activities of YCC. It is the responsibility of the CM to ensure that the terms and conditions of YCC awards comport with University policies and provides administrative support as appropriate, during the life of the award. The CM will provide YCC faculty and administrators guidance regarding interpretation of award terms and conditions, keep abreast of changes in University policy, federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and be a valuable and reliable resource to OSP and the community overall.
This position may be eligible to work largely remote.

Essential Duties

1. Review, develop, and negotiate clinical trial agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other sponsor contracts that may support the activities of the YSM.2. Keep abreast of laws, regulations and University policies and procedures governing the administration of agreements.3. Assist in the development of procedures affecting contract review, negotiation, and processing.4. Serve as a resource to YSM faculty and staff.5. Assist in and provide training on policies and issues related to research administration, the various aspects of contract preparation and submittal for faculty and staff.6. Collaborate and consult with other University offices such as Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), Office of Cooperative Research (OCR), Office of General Counsel (OGC), and the Office of Research Administration in the review and negotiation of agreements for YSM ensuring that all offices are informed of the status of negotiations and any other relevant communications.7. Act as a resource for other OSP staff in the review and negotiation of agreements, including guidance on contract terms and conditions such as indemnification, limitation of liability, intellectual property, royalty sharing, and confidentiality. 8. Ensure that all negotiations of YSM agreements comport and are coordinated with the negotiations by other OSP contract managers with the same sponsor.9. Ensure effective and timely negotiation and execution of YSM CTAs by coordinating related activities with HRPP, YCCI, and YSM staff, including but not limited to the negotiation of CTA budgets.10. Assist OSP in the effective facilitation of information to the broader Yale Research Community.11. Foster relationships and partnerships with sponsors, YSM, and faculty.12. Perform additional functions, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and four years of related experience in academia, medical center, business or industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Knowledge of contracts/legal issues. Understanding contract principles, terms and conditions as well as business principles. Ability to negotiate contract terms and conditions related to intellectual property, indemnification, publications, confidentiality, among others.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with demonstrated organizational skills.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated superior and organized customer service coordination working with multiple stakeholders, i.e., faculty, sponsors, administrators, etc.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to analyze and solve problems. Thorough working knowledge of PC-based tools including Microsoft Office Suite, data base administration and other related software.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to work well as part of a team and support others on the team during high pressure deadlines. The ability to work under pressure and not sacrifice accuracy and customer service.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Juris Doctor degree preferred, Master’s degree in a related field, working knowledge of federal regulations as they relate to the conduct of research. Working knowledge of contract management in an institution of higher education, health care system, medical center, or private organization conducting research.
