Content And News Coordinator

This position serves as assistant and coordinator for the KQED Content division, especially our large and fast paced news department. The Coordinator will also support the Chief Content Officer and VP News as administrative assistant when necessary. The Content Coordinator is the administrative hub of the Content division and KQED News Department, providing travel support, awards submissions, events planning and coordination and coordinating and directing projects that are necessary to the functioning of the Content division.

This position is responsible for managing the office needs and support services of the Content division, the newsroom and the radio programming team. This position helps the Senior Editor of Talent & Development to manage the KQED News internship training program. This position provides staff with information and supplies, directs employees through various administrative processes, maintains databases, coordinates office events and staff retreat, and completes special projects as necessary, such as creating documents and presentation materials. The position is a key liaison to the HR team as it relates to interdepartmental projects, such as onboarding.

The position requires a self-directed, proactive individual, capable of efficient multi-tasking and thoughtful oversight with little supervision.

This role will work hybrid between working in and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Salary Information: $62,000-$77,000

Essential Functions:

• Works with VP of News to create and implement strategies to improve operations, workflow, procedures, communication and culture, especially in the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Manages Content/News awards process and submissions, including designing an equitable judging process, coordinating and sitting on awards panel, scheduling critical dates, managing nominations process, updating internal records, researching prior winners and best practices, and coordinating submissions process, award entry fees and audio/video/text submission.
• Coordinates selected events involving staff and/or special editorial guests as well as monthly all news meetings. Oversees catering, building services requests, special orders and other event planning and logistics, as needed.
• Serves as liaison between IT, Radio Engineering, Membership, Marketing, and other departments, especially with requests for Content/Newsroom and bureau staff IT and equipment needs, News/Radio member inquiries, and radio programming information.
• Manages orientation and training sessions for News internship program in conjunction with Senior Editor, Talent & Development, and KQED Human Resources (e.g. planning workshops, coordinating agendas, coordination of IT setups for interns, and other training, etc.).
• Other support duties as assigned, including creating and producing press IDs.
• Serves as key content coordinator as it relates to office space and the seating chart.
• Performs as administrative assistant to the Chief Content Officer, assisting with procedure and initiative design & planning, managing projects, planning meeting agendas and coordinating speakers, assisting with building move coordination, creating documents and presentations, scheduling, taking notes, attending meetings, and arranging travel and performing research as needed.
• Manages, coordinates and helps train News staff in the editorial calendar and master story list for the broader newsroom.
• Manages, organizes, updates and utilizes department information systems and data sites; trains staff in utilizing these and other digital tools for sharing documents and procedures.
• Manages Content staff onboarding program including maintaining and updating informational documents, ensuring critical deadlines are met, creating first-week introductory schedules, and orientation of new hires to KQED procedures and culture.

Other Job Functions:

• Attends internal KQED meetings as needed to represent the Content division, and conveys relevant information to managers and editors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Answers departmental calls and e-mails, directing communications to the appropriate individual or KQED department.
