ABOUT THE COURT
Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 40 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Incumbents perform routine help desk or work station support duties while learning the court's information systems environment, network and operating systems, business and specialized court applications. Incumbents may be assigned to a central help desk unit, receiving, or responding to the most routine problem calls and related assignments, or may be assigned to a district to assist in providing work station support. TELEWORK OPPORTUNITIES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet the following minimum requirements at the time of filing:

OPTION I:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; -AND- one year of experience involving support of computer hardware and software for end-users.

OPTION II:
Completion of at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units of college or university-level coursework* applicable to providing computer technical support.

Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:

  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Office 365.
  • Experience operating computerized help desk systems to process service requests.
  • Experience performing help desk and computer support functions in a large public agency or enterprise.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of network configurations.
  • Ability to present technical information and explain concepts clearly, logically, with precision in oral and written form, and in a manner understood by technical and non-technical staff.
  • A+ Certification or equivalent to industry recognized computer support certification.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with VoIP telephone system administration, options terminology, and features.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

EXAMINATION INFORMATION:

PART I:
Qualifying evaluation of education, training and experience based upon submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire.

Part II:
An online examination, weighted 100%, covering the areas listed below. No person may complete this assessment more than once every 12 months.
  • DEDUCTIVE REASONING - Measures the ability to draw logical conclusions based on information provided, identify strengths and weaknesses of arguments, and complete scenarios using incomplete information.
  • WORK STYLES ASSESSMENT - Covering following instructions, customer focus, drive for success, conscientiousness, composure, and service professionalism.
  • COMMUNICATION - Covering communication and perception, group communication and teamwork, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, interviewing and communication, intrapersonal communication, listening, nonverbal communication, technology in communication, verbal communication, and language.
