Overview of the Compliance Specialist

The Compliance Specialist supports the legal and compliance functions of Wayspring by conducting research and providing guidance related to state and federal laws and regulations which may include giving specific guidance to management, operational leadership, and departments with a heavy focus on Medicaid regulations. This role will support Wayspring with the assessment, development, execution, monitoring and ongoing maintenance of compliance activities such as policies and procedures, education and training, compliance hotline reports and investigations, conflicts of interest, and sanction screenings as well as assisting with and/or managing audit & compliance initiatives for certification efforts such as HITRUST and recurring Client Assessments. The Compliance Specialist will report to the Vice President of Legal.


Responsibilities of the Compliance Specialist

  • Completes special projects as assigned
  • Facilitates and completes internal and external compliance requests
  • Supports Wayspring escalated regulator inquiry investigation and response
  • Helps provide oversight on compliance certifications such as HITRUST
  • Provides input into Compliance operational processes and process improvement initiatives
  • Communicates effectively with external clients and organizations as well as internal personnel
  • Coordinates internal resources by developing detailed project plans and supporting project deliverables/documentation
  • Manages and gathers HITRUST evidence during annual assessments
  • Supports the VP of Legal in Wayspring’s commitment to meet and maintain ongoing compliance with all applicable federal and state regulatory requirements
  • Aids and supports the Compliance team in project planning and the management of tasks/initiatives
  • Assists with internal and external client and partner organization initiatives
  • Tracks internal and external compliance initiatives and project deliverables
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of compliance trends and industry vulnerabilities
  • Ensures that all projects are completed on time, within budget and scope, manage and escalate project concerns, with potential solutions in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of company policies, procedures and plans
  • Assists with Policy and procedure development and review as required
  • Develops and fosters relationships with all Company functional departments to accomplish organizational objectives
  • Monitors status of proposed legislation and regulations of interest to Wayspring and its clients
  • Manages assigned compliance process improvement initiatives
  • Conducts internal compliance assessments and compile results to assist with organizational initiatives
  • Responsible for the research, assessment, monitoring and oversight of compliance and regulatory requirements for the day-to-day operations of our business including, but not limited to, opening and operating Wayspring Clinics in accordance with the Medicaid regulations in multiple states


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in paralegal studies or graduate degree in legal studies, healthcare compliance or healthcare administration
  • Previous HITRUST assessment experience required
  • Ability to maintain an elevated level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paces, dynamic environment
  • Working knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Regulations
  • Working knowledge of compliance and auditing processes and initiatives
  • Working knowledge of Project Management concepts and principles
  • Ability to accomplish assignments individually and as part of a team
  • Sense of urgency to accomplish activities efficiently and effectively as assigned both planned and unplanned
  • 5+ years compliance/regulatory or audit experience with Medicaid compliance experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint & Jira applications
  • Excellent organizational and people skills Exemplary communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Institute, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired (existing or seeking)
  • Certified in Health Care Compliance or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years project management
  • Experience with compliance and auditing
  • Certified in Health Care Privacy or equivalent
