Job Description
The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Cause-Driven Leader to serve as the Community Executive Director for the Lake Houston Family Y.

The Lake Houston Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Community Executive Director. This is an excellent opportunity for a progressive goal-oriented leader who achieves positive outcomes by utilizing strong team members, volunteers, and other community leaders. The Lake Houston YMCA is in Northeast Houston and serves the Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita Communities. This state-of-the-art facility recently went through a remodel in 2018 after Hurricane Harvey devasted much of the community. The Lake Houston YMCA has an operational budget of $3.5 million dollars and provides programs and services to 4,000 facility membership units. In addition to our strong programming, we raise over $175,000 a year in our annual campaign to provide community-based scholarships to thousands of families in our area including our Miracle League and adaptive programming which ensures that all children get the opportunity to play sports.

This position oversees the total operation of a YMCA center, including the member experience, local grass-roots marketing, youth & family programs, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies. Work within a centralized matrix model of staffing with departments such as: Facilities, Out of School Time.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises full-time exempt and non-exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten workload, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and availability to work operational hours of the YMCA and sites, which may include day, evenings and weekends.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Essential Functions
  • Leads with inclusion and ensures all members and participants feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. Builds a staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of the community.
  • Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies and programs that support center and Association mission, goals, and strategies. Ensures members receive a high-quality, positive member experience in the center.
  • Coordinates the development of the Center Board and committees.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the center to ensure goals are met.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, supervision and development of center-based staff. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the center-operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the center.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Directs center marketing and communication efforts.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
