Job Description
  • Reports To: The Board of Directors, the chief liaison is the Chairman of the Board via Executive Committee.


  • Description: Executive Director (ED) is the senior operating officer of the Rick Herrema Foundation and passionate about strengthening military families. The ED provides leadership and guidance to staff members to fulfill RHF’s vision, mission, and business strategy. Performs duties as may be prescribed by the Board and/or Executive Committee. Other key duties include maintaining culture, fundraising, governance, fiduciary responsibility, and thought leadership implementing the board's strategic vision to strengthen military families.


General Responsibilities


  • Financial Performance and Viability: Responsible for the fiscal integrity of RHF, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
  • Fundraising: Create new revenue streams through partnerships, major gifts, sponsorships, events, recurring gifts at all levels Build relationships with current/future donors through consistent and thoughtful communication
  • Organization Operations: Oversees and implements resources to ensure the operations of the organization are appropriate Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of RHF or delegating such responsibility as needed Establishes employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of RHF
  • Culture: RHF strengthens relationships and builds community for The Military Family through fun, quality activities Celebrate the inherent strength of military families
  • Organization Mission and Strategy: Engage RHF stakeholders in thought leadership to define and execute strategic planning and goals for RHF, including potential expansion to other military bases 1 Leads strategic planning of RHF to successfully fulfill its Mission into the future Enhance RHF image through community engagement, working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations, as well as the media and general public
  • Board/Committee Governance: Works with Board, committees, and staff in a manner that supports, guides, and fulfills the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors. Serves as an ex-officio board member Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and committees, providing all information necessary in a timely and accurate manner for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions Engage and develop the Board of advisors to assist in the fulfillment of RHF mission


Actual Job Responsibilities


  • Support infrastructure strategy & development at all RHF site locations
  • Engage in strategic partnerships with other organizations
  • Develop and execute the annual budget
  • Oversee and lead Board of Directors, Advisors, and committee meetings
  • Monitor and support staff directors' efforts in developing an effective staff
  • Develop, maintain, and execute on a fundraising strategy to include a donor care model
  • Supervise the RHF Site Director(s), and Finance Director
  • Chief Communication Officer: branding, marketing, and external communications efforts
  • Report to and engage the Board of Directors in thought leadership pertaining to policy decisions, fundraising, and overall ability to strengthen military families


Required Professional Qualifications


  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff, as well as their individual personal development
  • Proven strategic thinking and planning
  • Military DNA- working knowledge/ understanding of military families
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, along with superior public speaking abilities
  • Transparent and integrity driven leadership with a strong work ethic and high degree of energy
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation 4yr degree (preferred)
  • Proven fundraising experience in generating new revenue streams and improving financial results
