Job Description

Amerant Mortgage is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Collateral Specialist in the mortgage industry. As a Collateral Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting in the management and organization of mortgage loan collateral documents.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Collateral Documentation Management:

  • Creates and maintains electronic and physical files for easy retrieval and reference.
  • Assist in the organization, sorting, and maintenance of collateral documents related to mortgage loans.
  • Ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all collateral files.
  • Performs quality control checks to verify the accuracy and integrity of collateral documents.

Document Indexing and Tracking:

  • Retrieve and deliver collateral files as needed for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize document management software to track and monitor the status and location of collateral files.
  • Accurately index and categorize mortgage documents using established systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data security protocols when handling sensitive borrower information.

Collateral Exception Resolution:

  • Collaborates with internal teams, such as underwriters and loan officers, to resolve collateral-related exceptions or discrepancies.
  • Investigates and researches missing or incomplete documents and follow up to obtain the required information.
  • Communicates with external vendors, title companies, and government agencies to obtain necessary collateral documentation.

Compliance and Audit Support:

  • Participates in training programs to stay updated on industry regulations and best practices.
  • Identifies and reports any discrepancies or issues related to collateral documentation promptly.
  • Assists in conducting periodic audits to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies.


Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma required; associates degree preferred.
  • 2+ years in an office environment with previous filing experience.


Technical and/or other Essential knowledge:

  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently establish, maintain, and grow relationships, proficient communication via phone, email, or other electronic forums.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel and Word) Familiarity with mortgage loan documentation is preferred but not required.
