For recruitment purposes, applicants who are within 90 days of graduating with a baccalaureate degree in one of the following fields: agronomy; atmospheric sciences; biological sciences; chemistry; coastal resource management; ecology; engineering; environmental sciences; forestry; geosciences; landscape architecture; marine science; natural resource management or studies; oceanography; physical geography; planning; statistics; wetland management; or wildlife and/or fisheries science will be allowed to apply for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Working with engineers and planners to implement new coastal restoration projects.
- Working with Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) data. Includes QA/QC, database management, data analysis and integration into restoration project assessments.
- Collecting monitoring data including vegetation, surface elevation change and accretion, shoreline change, submerged aquatic vegetation, and hydrology data types.
- Developing and implementing monitoring plans for coastal restoration projects.
- Operating and maintaining boats including shallow draft vessels and airboats.
- Assessing coastal restoration project effectiveness and composing reports.
- Managing monitoring data and interacting with CPRA’s CIMS database.
As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Coastal Resources Scientist 1, Coastal Resources Scientist 2 or a Coastal Resources Scientist 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Please refer to the “Job Specifications” tab located at the top of the LA Careers “Current Job Opportunities” page of the Civil Service website for specific information of salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level. The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist 3 is $78,582 annually.
There are special bi-weekly entrance rates established for this position:
Coastal Resources Scientist 1 $1,672.80
Coastal Resources Scientist 2 $1,789.60
Coastal Resources Scientist 3 $2,036.80
