This job is a great opportunity for those new in the accounting field and those seeking to expand their accounting experience to work across all disciplines of accounting.
Applicants may apply 90 days prior to receipt of the baccalaureate degree, and the offer will be contingent upon verification of receipt of the required degree where degree substitutions are not utilized.

  • Premium pay is offered starting at an additional $1.00 per hour worked and increases up to $2.00 per hour worked with longevity in the position.
  • This job has a Special Entrance Rate minimum of $40,164.80 per year ($19.31 hourly) for Accountant 1 and $42,972.80 per year ($20.66 hourly) for Accountant 2 for those meeting minimum qualifications.

Include all work history and describe all duties performed. Attaching a copy of your transcript identifying completed and/or enrolled accounting courses and total semester hours completed will be helpful in the qualification process, but official transcripts will be required upon hire.
The Patient’s Compensation Fund Oversight Board is an off-budget and non-ISIS paid agency with an internal Accounting Unit that is responsible for processing a broad range of accounting duties, including ACH transactions, financial statements, fiscal reports, W-2, payroll, and account payables. The incumbent in this position will provide professional-level accounting services to the PCF; and the Oversight Board. The incumbent in this position handles all revenue transactions, account payables, and reconciliation of revenues from PCF’s internal computer application (both surcharge and filing fees). Incumbent reports directly to the Accountant Manager 2.
Incumbents may serve 12-month probation and be subject to a pre-employment background and drug screening. This agency uses e-Verify to verify eligibility to work in the United States. This job is in the downtown Baton Rouge area and includes garage parking access. This is a Monday – Friday, a full-time job opportunity in an office setting that offers flexible work schedules that may include limited telework following an introductory period.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting.
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR DEGREE AND TWENTY-FOUR HOURS IN ACCOUNTING:
A certified public accountant (CPA) certificate will substitute for the baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting.
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR DEGREE ONLY:
Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree (not the 24 hours in accounting).
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree (not the 24 hours in accounting) as follows:
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Examples of Work

Prepares required financial statements and fiscal reports which include the compilation and analysis of data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Communicates with public and private accountants; state, federal, and independent auditors; banks; brokerage firms; program or management personnel; and vendors for the purpose of providing information and technical assistance needed to resolve problems.
Maintains cash management records, including funds drawn and received, funds disbursed by sources, deposits of funds, issuance of refunds, and classifies revenue as to sources of funding and expenditures as to their nature.
Prepares, monitors, reconciles, audits, and forecasts revenues, expenditures, and budgets.
Reviews and approves purchases and contracts.
Participates in the development of new accounting techniques in the design and implementation of accounting subsystems, compilation of manuals for accounting and computer application, and preparing managerial reports.
