Job Description

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager at the SFGH Renal Center, Department of Medicine, the incumbent will be responsible for chronic hemodialysis patients. This includes assessment, treatment planning, patient education on hemodialysis and evaluation of outcomes. To accomplish these tasks, the incumbent works directly with patients as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. The incumbent also actively participates in assisting physicians with medical assessment to ensure dialysis adequacy. Direct patient care includes initiate hemodialysis treatments, administrating medications, education, Lab drawings, and ordering medical supplies.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Nephrology Division spans multiple campuses with faculty and staff located at the UCSF Parnassus, Laurel Heights, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC), and Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG). The Nephrology Division consists of over 100 faculty, fellows, and staff whose work is grounded in deep commitment to, and respect for patients with kidney disease. The Division has approximately 40 faculty members, 15 admin and research staff, 16 fellows, and an annual budget of $11.1 million. For over 50 years, the Nephrology Division has employed and trained leaders in academic nephrology, superb clinical research scientists and basic scientists, and outstanding clinical nephrologists. Our faculty are leading experts in adult nephrology: including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and kidney transplantation. Our mission continues in this tradition: expanding the frontiers of basic and clinical investigation in nephrology, training the next generation of academic nephrology leaders and providing the highest level of patient care. Our division within and the UCSF School of Medicine overall provides a premier academic environment for faculty and trainees to provide outstanding clinical care and to be at forefront of kidney research worldwide. According to the U.S. News and World Report Rankings, UCSF Medical Center is constantly ranked in the top five nationally for “Nephrology.” UCSF School of Medicine and Department of Medicine are ranked #1 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with hemodialysis patients
  • Be able to hear audio alarms
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree and the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing and six months of clinical experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Valid California Registered Nurse license
  • Be able to stand on foot for 12 hours
  • Be able to identify color codes experience as Hemodialysis nurse
  • CPR-Basic Life Support certified and current

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience as Hemodialysis nurse
  • Certified Nephrology Nurse
  • Bilingual – Spanish/Tagalog/Chinese

License/Certification

  • CPR-Basic Life Support certified and current
  • Valid California Registered Nurse license
