Clinical Nurse I - Pre-Admission Screening

Salary Range: $45.5700 - $70.6300 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

The nurse utilizes the nursing processes based on research and evidence based outcomes to meet patient care needs. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. The Registered Nurse provides quality-nursing care in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act, incorporates Perioperative care modalities and utilizes the nursing process, based on evidence-based outcomes to meet patient care needs. The population served is the pediatric, adult and geriatric patient requiring outpatient surgical procedures. The RN may care for patients requiring the following service: Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, General, Gynecology, EENT (Eyes, ears, nose & throat), Gastroenterology, Cosmetic, Thoracic and Vascular by evaluating the patient's comorbidity risks.

Demonstrates leadership skills by directing personnel and establishing collegial relationships with others. Demonstrates competence in assessing the surgical risks, anesthesia requirements for each procedure, reviewing preoperative testing and reporting abnormal results to the surgeon / anesthesia. Demonstrates the ability to work in a multicultural team environment and is respectful of the cultural diversity of the workforce and patients we serve.

Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports Hoag Hospital’s, Patient Care Services, Perioperative Service’s and Unit’s mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current licensure, or interim permit in the state of California required.

Preferred: BSN degree.

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, effective communication to staff, medical offices, patients and families. Additional skills and knowledge of equipment may be required for hire into some patient care departments.

Knowledge of the surgical process and age of population served. Experienced in the perioperative process and the care of the surgical patient. The ability to identify required preoperative testing according to the Anesthesia Guidelines. The ability to multi task in a high volume area. Must be proficient in computer skills.

Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not necessary. EPIC experience preferred.

License and Certifications

Required: Current licensure, or interim permit as a Registered Nurse in the State of California required. Current BLS certification is required prior to clinical rotation. ACLS is obtained and maintained.

Preferred: Basic arrhythmia, ACLS and PALS.
