Description
The Clinical Data Scientist prepares and makes effective use of data, applying knowledge of best practices to support hospital-specific and regional quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. They address the data reporting needs for regulatory bodies such as CMS, CDC, local health departments, and other accreditation bodies such as Joint Commission. They prepare dashboards and reports and develops visualization tools to communicate data insights with clinical teams, hospital leadership, and other operational stakeholders.
A successful data scientist will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex data to support clinical and quality improvement initiatives, ultimately leading to improving patient outcomes. They work collaboratively with clinical and operational teams, identifies the research question, generates a hypothesis, and develops project planning for improvement initiatives. They design and implement business intelligence tools and solutions impacting hospital quality metrics. They create automated procedures and databases to optimize report automation, ensuring data quality and integrity. They develop solutions for technical data extraction and manipulation to generate insightful and actionable analysis. They manage the technology used in day-to-day data reporting and analytics.
Position Responsibilities
  • Use LUHS information systems to support innovation in clinical care, service, and resource utilization, providing expertise on the use of clinical data to identify quality and performance improvement opportunities and measure success. Creates dashboards, ad-hoc reports, and robust analyses addressing departmental and as well as hospital level analytics needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares quality and safety reports for LUHS committees, executive leadership, and management teams to support decision-making and action planning. Design and implement statistical models to identify patterns, trends, and insights in clinical and quality data.
  • Provides analytical support for teams addressing local quality and regional improvement initiatives by engaging key stakeholders.
  • Communicates performance and technical definitions of national benchmarks and performance reporting with leaderships for programs such as HVBP, CMS Star rating, and other hospital and specialty ranking agencies, including USWR measures and Leapfrog.
Requirements
  • Programming skills in Python and R preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Computer Science, or Health Informatics or related field.
  • Strong SQL and coding experience.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R or SAS, and database management.
  • EPIC certification or training minimum in Cognito, Clarity and Caboodle Data models.
  • 3+ years of previous job-related experience.
