ScopeWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Chief Operating Officer with a strong financial background to lead and drive our operational excellence. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership and management of Umoja Community Foundation. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the COO will be responsible for overseeing the organization's day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless execution of programs and initiatives, and optimizing financial performance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial management, a track record of successful operational leadership, and a passion for making a positive impact on underserved communities.


Key Responsibilities


Operational Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the organization's operations, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals and mission of the foundation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, enhance operational efficiency, and promote a culture of innovation.


Financial Management: Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. Develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue, control costs, and maintain fiscal responsibility.


Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of the foundation's strategic plans. Provide insights and recommendations to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to drive growth and sustainability.


Program Oversight: Work closely with program directors to ensure the successful implementation of community programs. Monitor program outcomes, evaluate effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.


Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of operational and administrative staff. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes professional growth and achievement.


Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, government agencies, and community members. Identify opportunities for collaboration and resource-sharing to amplify the foundation's impact.


Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure the foundation's compliance with relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. Implement risk management strategies to safeguard the organization's assets and reputation.


Communication: Effectively communicate the foundation's mission, goals, and impact to internal and external audiences. Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and meetings.


Requirements


Qualifications:


  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire diverse teams
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource allocation
  • Commitment to social impact and community development
  • Proven track record of at least 7-10 years in operational leadership, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Nonprofit Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, regulations, and risk management
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for financial management and reporting
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage stakeholders
