Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Chemist Staff Scientist/Engineer in Berkeley, CA.
Duties: Responsible for the development and execution of a leading-edge experimental program in in-situ photophysical and structural characterization of thin film compound and hybrid semiconductor materials, especially during synthesis and evolution of functional properties. Responsible for determining the energetic, compositional, and structural factors that control the conversion of reagents into products. Guide and train support staff, postdocs, students, and users. Perform administrative, scientific, and project management tasks in parallel. Conduct and perform collaborative research and effectively interact with a broad range of colleagues. Recruit and serve a diverse pool of users and uphold Foundry goals in terms of stated safety and diversity, equity & inclusion missions in addition to the scientific mission as articulated in company's strategic plan. Compete for additional internal and external funding to strengthen research efforts. Develop new User capabilities including the automation of synthesis and characterization of functional materials. Publish high-impact science based on both internal and User research. Present results to the scientific community at national and international conferences while developing a strong scientific research program. Uphold Molecular Foundry and LBNL expectations in relation to DEI.
Benefits: This full salary range of this position is between $162,936 to $290,412 per year depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
Requirements: Employer will accept a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related technical field. Position requires:
1. Thin film semiconductor synthesis via chemical solution processing such as spin coating or blade coating;
2. Materials characterizations including spectroscopy, diffraction, and imaging tools applied during or after material synthesis;
3. Represent and promote scientific projects to audiences of diverse technical backgrounds at recognized national and international conferences (MRS or GRC), research institutes, and universities;
4. Synchrotron track record on operando and in situ studies of thin film semiconductors; and
5. Develop new directions, methods, instruments and processes related to solution synthesis, advanced characterization, or automatization of thin film synthesis and characterization.
