Job description

The Category General Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and resource stewardship for their assigned category of products and services. This position is accountable for leveraging insights gained across the business from associates, partners, and customers to drive strategic, timely, and impactful improvements and to manage structured change to their environment. Success in this position requires a deep understanding that collaboration is key to growing any business, especially in a complex and competitive industry. This leader will drive process-orientation, standards, and best practices across the category to ensure delivery of financial objectives and that we continue to be known as the partner of choice for retailers, distributors, builders, and all our customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Management:

  • Cornerstone Production System (CPS) deployment through category team working with functional teams
  • Manage product lifecycles from inception, through introduction, growth, maturity, and decline
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across category team and functional teams to accomplish goals
  • Identify and set financial and growth targets for category - develop plans to execute on growth
  • Deliver EBITDA targets in line with plan expectations and develop and implement plans for continued YOY improvement
  • P&L accountability
  • Plan, lead, and execute key projects in line with Category growth goals and strategic initiatives

Strategy Development & Deployment:

  • Use market analysis, key customer inputs
  • Identify and implement ways of working that make safety and quality first, lean thinking and employee engagement a way of life
  • Drive lifecycle management: pricing, innovation, rationalization and differentiation of products, services, and go-to-market strategies
  • Invest significant effort informing and supporting talent offense and aligning mindsets and skillsets important to the future of their business
  • Develop and execute a clear vision with sharply focused strategies that will ensure field services and installation operations support the overall business strategy and remain ahead of the competitive curve
  • Foster a culture, including ways of working and behaviors, that is congruent with our mission, values, and success model
  • Develop short- and long-term strategies to improve processes by eliminating non-value-added activities
  • Co-author actionable go-to-market and channel strategies for their categories that compliment overall BU Sales & Marketing Strategy
  • To inform NPI investment, value propositions, and strategic pricing
  • Identify, develop, and execute new areas for cost savings, working capital efficiency, cash flow management and operational improvement
  • Take responsibility for the safety and security of the people who work in their business, the products they supply to customers, and the company’s physical assets
  • Ensure everyone is working against the right priorities, receiving coaching and feedback to promote performance, and experiencing exciting opportunities for growth
  • Present to fellow executive team members, the CEO, employees, and/or, the board of directors
  • Serve as a role model and champion for employee engagement retention
  • Drive actions and processes to increase share gain
  • Evaluate competition and recommend strategies to win against competitors
  • Develop and drive category strategy & portfolio roadmap
  • To define growth initiatives
  • Serve as a role-model and resource for others concerning products and services, policies and procedures, industry news, and changes in regulations

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years-experience in operations leadership of a high volume, multi-site, building materials business with responsibility spanning installation, quality, project management and centers of excellence
  • Experience managing and building upon successful homegrown systems and solutions, while offering new ideas and plans for improvement
  • Experience overseeing P&L and financial metrics; data driven
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Operations or a closely related technical discipline
  • Experience leading successfully in a matrixed environment
  • Minimum of 7 years in people management role

The US Base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 - $250,000 + bonus + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401K and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. (Full time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week)
