Job Summary


Performs entry-level to routine cashier, clerical, bookkeeping, and merchandising duties in accordance with assigned department. Work involves compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, and maintaining files. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Essential Job Functions

  • Perform weekly, monthly, and annual inventory for audit; inspect merchandise; price items and display merchandise effectively.
  • May arrange the scheduling, transfer, and display of surplus property; and may assist in conducting physical inventory.
  • Reviews correspondence, purchase orders, summaries, manuals, vouchers, records, and actions such as filing and data entry.
  • Assist with greeting, purchasing items and making suggestions to customers while providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Files and maintains supplies, forms, records, and reports.
  • Balance cash register at the start and finish of each shift; open and close the facility according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs related work and reports as assigned.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.


Required Education


High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation.
  • Excellent customer service, typing and telephone etiquette skills.
  • Requires a working knowledge of general cashiering procedures, office procedures and policies, as well as general office equipment and computers.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
  • Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
  • Ability to operate job-related equipment.
  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operations, technical, or office processes.
