Summary


Information & Responsibilities


The Division of Student Experience, guides students in finding value in their experiences outside the classroom at CalArts. Campus Life is the unit responsible for ensuring the development and supervision of the leadership development and student involvement of the CalArts student community. The Campus Life Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of the Bartending Program, Student Experience inventory system, supporting student organizations and clubs, and event programming. The Coordinator will support the Division of Student Experience’s student involvement efforts to further the Institutes’ commitment to excellence in student advocacy, programming and engagement. This position will supervise student staff responsible for supporting all campus wide programming coordinated through Student Experience, Campus Life, and the Institutes’ registered student organization community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Life, the Campus Life Coordinator serves as the supervisor of paraprofessional staff in the absence of the Assistant Director of Campus Life.


Requirements


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to):


Campus Life and Student Experience Event Programming


  • Serves as an active partner on Orientation and Graduation with the larger Campus Life team on logistics related to those and other Institute-wide efforts in supporting students during these events
  • Support Orientation efforts by leading paraprofessional staff training, attending scheduling meetings, leading students events, and participating in marketing efforts.
  • Provide event programming support for events hosted by the Student Union and affiliated student organizations, identity groups, and clubs
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Campus Life or the Associate Vice President of Student Experience
  • Support with the supervision of Campus Life Student Workers with their tasks and event programming efforts
  • Collaborate with other Student Experience departments and provide assistance with programming efforts from other offices such as Residential Life, Center for Life and Work, and Health and Wellness as requested


Student Organizations and Clubs


  • Act as a liaison between the Campus Life office and the CalArts Student Union’s Student Organization Committee
  • Perform ongoing program assessment for Student Leadership & Development. Collect and analyze data, prepare and write reports for assessment and new program proposals
  • Maintain a database of all student organizations and its affiliated leaders
  • Supports student organizations and clubs with the registration process and funding request process
  • Host educational workshops for student leaders affiliated with student organizations and clubs


Bartending Program


  • Maintaining and coordinating all approved receptions for Institute approved gallery shows, department and office events, and student-led events if preapproved alcohol will be served Lead the hiring process for recruiting new student workers for the program and facilitate training of the Bartender Program for all student workers
  • Perform ongoing assessment for operation, performance, and efficiency of the program. Collect and analyze data, prepare and write reports for assessment and new program proposals.
  • Main point of contact for the department approval of the CalArts Facilities Reception Request form
  • Serve as the primary supervisor to the Bartender Student Coordinator and the supervision of all bartender student workers.
  • Complete the California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training and pass the ABC Alcohol Server Certification exam within 30 days of completing the training within 60 days of initial employment


Student Experience Inventory System


  • Organize and maintain the items and equipment in the inventory system; make additional purchases for lost or broken equipment when necessary
  • Compile, analyze and distribute usage statistics, database information, and comprehensive reports.
  • Train team members and student workers on how to utilize the inventory system
  • Advise the campus community regarding the use of and how to properly use equipment for events
  • Serve as the main manager of the Student Experience inventory system
Qualifications


Experience/Qualifications


  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and summaries incorporating data, assessment, and historical information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of leadership development, student development, program coordination, student leader advisement, conflict management, mediation, group dynamics, and assessment
  • Minimum 2 years program direction, student supervision, and student advisement experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • Ability to work weeknight and weekend hours.
  • Communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct.
  • Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service and student development.


Required Education


  • A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in student development, higher education or related field or equivalent experience is preferred. The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
