The Job: The Camps Manager oversees year-round camps program and associated programming. This role is directly involved with all camp workshop programming development and facilitation, in collaboration with the employees who design program content and activities, and oversees activities of camp facilitators.


Responsibilities


  • Track, record and analyze Camps program attendance data and program assessment results (via the Grid System and other tracking or survey tools) to be reviewed and then utilized in the improvement of existing programming, and in the development of new programming with the Director.
  • Ensure the delivery of engaging and dynamic programming for youth participating in all Camps programs.
  • Manage all schedules and coordinate delivery of Camps initiatives, coordinating programming details and all associated tasks with internal and external participants and support staff.
  • Ensure all Camps staff and facilitators understand and promote the safe operation of all Camps materials and equipment.
  • Serve as the point of contact and liaison to Chicago area schools and community groups encouraging student participation around Camps programs within the Museum.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with internal Communications and Marketing Departments for all promotional materials and be available to meet with media representatives to promote the program.
  • Inspect classroom or studio spaces before and after programs to ensure they are ready for the day’s programs, stocked appropriately and are in good order. This includes maintaining material and equipment inventories and managing ordering processes.
  • Oversee all team members associated with Camps program and temporary employee resources, manage budget, schedule, overall task development, and coordinate with Camp Associates on daily tasks and outcomes.
  • Use inquiry-based practices and design-thinking/iterative design processes in facilitating learning and engagement.
  • Coordinate marketing materials with Museum internal departments, including but not limited to External Affairs, Guest Experiences and Special Events.


Qualifications


  • Individual must possess excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with youth or public program design, facilitation and management.
  • Established ability to speak in front of an audience with comfort and confidence along with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to learn to use new software applications, processes, equipment and tools, and simple machinery.
  • Competent with Windows, Google Docs, and basic file maintenance
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or a minimum of five years of related work experience (additional experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree is acceptable) with at least 3 years managing diverse teams
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. No special visual requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • Ability to work Saturdays as required.
  • Strong organizational skill is required, as well as effective resource management (material and staff)
