Building Inspector-Code Enforcement Officer

Salary Range: $52,587 - $81,510

The Town Of Topsail Beach Is Accepting Applications For A Full-Time Building Inspector / Code Enforcement Officer. This Position Is Multi-Trade And Requires A Minimum Of Level 1 In All Of The Following Trades: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical And Electrical. An Employee In This Position Reviews Permit Applications And Plans, Issues Permits, And Conducts Inspections. This Position Is Also Responsible For Investigating And Processing Local Code Violations. An Employee In This Position Must Possess The Necessary Administrative Skills For Daily Computer And Software Use Including Data Entry And Record Keeping Maintenance. An Employee In This Position Works Daily With Contractors, Architects, Engineers, And Homeowners In Complying With Federal, State And Local Ordinances And Codes. Therefore, This Employee Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Explain Complex Information In A Non-Technical Manner And Be Able To Use Firmness And Tact When Enforcing Ordinances And Codes. An Employee In This Position Is Subject To Working In Both Inside And Outside Environments, In Extreme Hot And Cold Weather, And Exposure To Various Hazards Such As Loud Noises, Vibration, Moving Mechanical Parts, Electrical Current, Chemicals, Odors, Dusts, Mists, And Oils And May Be Asked To Perform Damage Assessments After Emergencies.

Must Have: Ability To Conduct Field Inspections Of New, Existing, Or Remodeled Buildings, Residences, And Businesses For Conformance With Safety Standards, Codes And Ordinances. Knowledge Of Minimum Housing Code Requirements And Enforcement Process. Knowledge And Ability To Read And Interpret Plans, Surveys, Maps, And Other Technical Data Reports. Knowledge And Understanding Of Local Town Ordinances And How To Interpret And Apply Them. Ability To Work With Other State And Federal Agencies And Organizations. Ability To Establish And Maintain Effective Working Relationships With Property Owners, Contractors, And The General Public. Skill And Ability To Perform Clerical Work Such As Daily Inspection Reports And Work Sheets, Maintenance And Organization Of Records, Input Data In Inspection Software, And Communicate By Email. Ability To Work Independently And Without Close Supervision. Ability To Resolve Compliance Problems With Property Owners And/Or Contractors.

Typical Qualifications: Level 1 In Building, Plumbing, Mechanical And Electrical. Knowledge Of Fema Flood Requirements And Cama Regulations Are Desired But Not Required.
