Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of combined experience in the field of construction or related field inspection or plans review that meet the specifications required by Florida Administrative Code for Residential Inspector Certification.
Licenses or Certifications
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
Provisional Building Inspector Residential (formerly 1&2 Family) – $48,776.00 Min - $76,336.00 Max
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire, a provisional license issued by the State of Florida as a Building Inspector Residential (formerly 1&2 Family).
  • Promotion to fully licensed Residential (formerly 1&2 Family) pay grade upon attainment of Standard Residential (formerly 1&2 Family) Building Inspector license issued by the State of Florida. A Standard Residential (formerly 1&2 Family) Building Inspector license must be obtained within one (1) year of attaining a provisional building inspector license.
Building Inspector Residential (formerly 1&2 Family) - $56,451.20 Min - $88,358.40 Max
  • Certification as a Building Inspector Residential (formerly 1 & 2 Family) by the State of Florida.
Key Responsibilities
  • Employees in this class possess considerable knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and principles, as well as applicable municipal, regional, and state regulatory practices.
  • Work involves technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.
  • Performs skilled inspection and certification of new, existing, and altered buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the state and municipality's building codes for the Department of Community Development.
  • Inspections are conducted independently but in accordance with Building Division regulations and established technical standards. Perform other related duties as required.
