Breeding Operations Associate
The Operations Associate ensures proper execution of protocols, agronomic practices, crop management and communicate effectively to grow quality vegetable crops at our Research and Development field operations station. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and passionate individual to join a multi-disciplinary team of vegetable breeders, horticulturists, agronomists, data scientists, and engineers who work on creative solutions to complex business problems using advanced field and greenhouse operations, equipment, analytics, and cutting-edge automation techniques.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Breeding Operations Associate, are to:
- Schedule activities according to crop cycles, supervise and manage contractor labor, and maintain records and supplies;
- Operation of UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicle) and affiliated software for crop specific data capturing functions and analysis;
- Ownership, monitor and help create automated irrigation schedules using AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Software.
- Manage day to day operations in field, greenhouses, and farming operations on and off-site;
- Conduct and design implementation of Farmscape, IPM program (Integrated Pest Management) and Bayer Green Farm Strategy. This includes scouting, beneficial insect augmentation, field planting design and data collection;
- Model daily pollination and hand harvesting efforts to achieve efficiency and maintain accuracy of resource usage and forecasting Leverage metrics applications and quality control processes to realize accuracy, efficiency and expanded improvements to protocols;
- Ensure application and adoption of best practices in seed handling, geo-positioning (GIS/GPS), crop management, irrigation, plant nutrition, plant health, and harvest to deliver quality data and optimize results for cost, quality and yield;
- Apply proper planning tools to manage tasks such as capacity request, trial mapping and management, transplanting, fertigation, pollination and harvest coordination with Pipeline Enablement Associates to own the plan and labor execution for breeding operational tasks as planned, including marker sampling and trial plan execution (seed packet filling, trial preparation and sowing, trial execution, harvest and broad data collection) to relinquish trial sets back to breeding;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license (in order to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s risk screening for hiring drivers – Motor Vehicle Record will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening);
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Demonstrated ability to influence partners and customers;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based and cross-functional team environment;
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills;
- Passion to grow and willingness to be intellectually challenged; willingness to influence and inspire others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in horticulture or agronomy
- Previous crop management experience, either in open field or in a greenhouse environment is highly preferred.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $72,800.00 to $109,200.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
